I’m a fan! It was in great shape when I played it and the pace of play was solid. Some above average green complexes and some standard Florida golf. I’d happily play there again and recommend it.
Thanks! Might book for Thursday but saw they just got done punching on 6/8
Happy to report @Birdie813 is a good hang and Streamsong still kicks ass.
Headed to the area for a boys/golf weekend Nov. 6-9th. Anyone know of any 4-man scrambles we could participate in on Saturday, November 8th?
We have our other golf down for Friday and Sunday morning, but looking for something fun on Saturday.
Hey all. Akarito from the PGS Roost here. I’m starting a new job in Pinellas Park at the end of the month and will be a geo-bachelor for a while until the family joins from Charleston. I’m 44 w/ 3 kids so not really looking for a USF college house à la “Old School”.
- I’ve been to Tampa 5 times in my life and 4 of those were to the Convention Center. The 5th was to Dunedin on work trip. In short, I know nothing about the area. It appears there’s a clump of apartments off I-275 just on the east side of PP/NE St Pete. Is that a decent area to move alone?
- I’m guessing I’ll be solo walking some evening 9’s at Mangrove (heard it’s a decent option for a solo walker to stroll out and get to okay easily). Any better suggestions or is this the best plan?
Thanks!
First of all, whatever you do, please do not call it St Pete’s. Just St Pete.
That area is growing on both sides of the bridge, and is getting nicer on the St Pete side (can’t speak too much for Gandy side in Tampa). Obviously quieter than downtown, lot of land up there taken up by industrial parks like Raymond James and Jabil. Can be flood zone up there but that’s most of the peninsula.
Mangrove is a nice muni to play, can be tough to get a time on the weekend. But shouldn’t have a problem with evening 9s there. And unlike most Florida golf, it is very walkable. Their range sucks though, can’t get the grass to grow so they’ve been mats only for 18 months and didn’t look like it’s gonna change anytime soon.
Don’t listen to @DombrowBryan, call it St. Pete’s to everyone you meet, that’s what we all call it.
/s
I second everything he said about Mangrove Bay.
I live right near the area you’re describing. There are quite a few apartment complexes in the area. It’s a pretty good area to live, close to just about everything. If you have any questions or need any help, feel free to DM me and I’ll be happy to help as much as I can.
I appreciate the info. I’ve reached out to a couple complexes over there. Looking forward to catching a round once I’m in & settled.
And I’ll make sure I plural possess St Pete to St Pete’s every chance I get. I’m guessing I’ll make even more friends if I do it with “Tampa Bays” too? /s
I’m more of a “Tampa’s Bays” guy, but to each their own. Welcome to the neighborhood, I’m just over the bridge in Tampa and would love to meet up for a round once you’re all settled in.
Update: I am moved in. I have a bed, a couch, tv with ps5, a coffee pot, and my golf bag. It’s peak bachelor living! ![]()
Hey everyone! I’m coming down to play Streamsong Jan. 1-5. Instead of taking a 6 AM January 1st flight out of Minneapolis I think my wife and I might fly down on the 31st in the afternoon and spend New Years in Tampa then take our time in the morning making our way over to Streamsong. Any good areas we should look at for hotel/good restaurant recommendations for a fun end of year dinner?
I’d recommend staying in Water Street or Downtown St. Petersburg, plenty of awesome places to spend over new years.
Water Street (Downtown Tampa) - Edition Hotel or JW Marriott
St. Petersburg - Vinoy Hotel, Birchwood Hotel
Hey everyone - I’m doing Cabot Citrus Farms with some buddies in Feb and we have a day on either side of our Cabot itinerary to play somewhere else (we’ve already done Streamsong).
We have access to a few private courses through Invited Clubs and Heritage but we’re struggling to determine which is best.
Which one or two courses should we target out of the following:
Tampa Palms
Hunters Green
Ardea
Countryside
The Club at Cheval
TPC Tampa
Can’t really speak for the rest but definitely not the bottom two. Next to each other and both are bad
You might also consider Dunedin. It’s public but it’s an old Ross that was recently fully restored.
Where will you be staying?
Currently have two nights booked at Cabot and one night at a hotel in Brooksville.
See if you can do southern hills plantation up in brooksville. Beats the rest of the list
I’m a member at Tampa Palms & Hunters/Countryside are sister clubs. I’d definitely play TP over Hunters and Countryside - it’s a harder course and isn’t just house lined everywhere as it’s built off of a conservation area. Ardea just did a huge renovation a year or so ago, that’s now a “premium” club within the Invited network, I haven’t played there. Cheval also just do a renovation and reopened last week, I haven’t heard how it is after that. Agree to skip TPC. Coasts on the name.
So, so helpful. Thanks!
