Vinoy is part of the resort, not public. I believe Dunedin just started their renovations so they won’t be available.
Mangrove is where I play most of my golf in the area. Conditions are solid, and it’s better than most Florida public golf with less water and no houses lining the holes. Because it’s the only real public game in town, they pack you in with 7-8 min tee times so pace is slow, usually around 4:15 or 4:30 for a round. Tee times open up 7 days in advance at 6 AM, and will fill up very quickly. Not sure when the rates update but it’s currently $41 walking or $56 with cart, won’t be any higher than that.
I haven’t played Bardmoor in a bit, but it was pretty mediocre last time I was there. It’ll likely be more money than Mangrove too.
To come in and be an echo chamber, Vinoy is resort not public, Dunedin is closed, and Bardmoor has some serious problems with pace of play and is a meh course with meh conditions to begin with. Mangrove is your best bet, but be ready hop on a tee time early. I think Seminole Lake is ok, but I haven’t played there in a while so ymmv. Clearwater is old and feels old, it’s a fun round but conditions are what they are. Outside of that I wouldn’t touch anything other than par 3 courses and Smuggler’s Cove putt putt lmao
I just moved into St Pete and I live in Belleair. I cannot play pelican or BCC yet but have been doing my time at Clearwater Country Club and it does feel old but is fine for what it is. Also have played Cove Cay which wasn’t bad just way too packed with times.
What is the deal with Seminole Lake? Is it just mediocre? Too expensive?
Can’t speak to those but Mangrove is on TeeTimeSnipe, where it’ll send you an alert if somebody cancels their time. They have a 7 day free trial and you can cancel it right after signup. My recommendation is to book at one of those others, but people cancel at Mangrove all the time so you might still be able to get it.
Hey guys - new to the area and weighing club options… So far looking at Carrolwood and Tampa Palms(will be in North Tampa, ~5 mins from Carrolwood). Liked what i saw from Tampa Palms but no Jr Exec membership was a bummer. Anywhere else I should be considering? Have heard Avila has a great Jr Exec program but unfortunately no referrals, so thats likely out. Thanks!
If you’re ~5 min from Carrollwood you’re likely 20+ from Tampa Palms. I’d go Carrollwood if Avila isn’t an option. Avila would be the best of the three but likely also most expensive maybe even with their junior program.
