Hey guys - I know it’s not Tampa, but would appreciate any public recommendations in the Lakeland area if you have any. Looking to come down in August and stay in that general vicinity to keep our drive to Southern Dunes and Streamsong in the 40 minute range.
You’re in! DM with the details incoming!
@Asimpson3 and @papajohn56 are your Lakeland sherpas. Guys, is it worth a 50 min drive to Lake Jovita?
Probably not. Last time @Big_RanDeer and a few of us played there, course was chewed up from so much play. That was during peak season but they’re charging a bunch too.
I’ve always preferred Eaglebrooke in the Lakeland area. Southern Dunes was very nice the one time I played there, even if they are pampered fucks for recountouring the putting green because it was too severe.
Yeah @justmuckit , I’ll echo what @Asimpson3 said before. Eaglebrooke is by far the most consistent nice course in the area. Cleveland Heights has like 90% chance of being underwater on any day in summer and don’t get fooled into Bartow’s “Donald Ross” Muni tagline. It also gets incredibly swampy and is usually in terrible conditions. I haven’t played Huntington in ages, but have a couple buddies that swear by it and are usually out there dewsweeping on Saturday morning.
Eaglebrooke it is, guys. Thanks!
(assuming they aren’t punching greens)
They aerated in early April and haven’t mentioned another round in their newsletter yet. They normally distribute the newsletter on the 1st of the month. If you DM me a reminder I’ll check it for you.

Anybody have a recommendation for an instructor in the area? Tampa - Sarasota area
Gotta love the humidity lately
Played Streamsong Blue yesterday via the resident walking rate. Walked starting at 10:06 with my own push cart that does not have wheels made for sand. 10/10 do not recommend. Course was awesome but the heat and humidity were soul crushing.
We’re (stupidly) playing Blue in late August. Do they have/allow rickshaw-like carts like what Bandon has?
note to all non-florida golfers. Do not walk in the summer. bad times ahead
Yeah they did! I thought they were free but when I called they said they were $15 to rent. I took mine because it has a water bottle holder/pouches plus a place to hold an umbrella for shade. The umbrella was clutch but the sand made my cart very difficult to push which was a tough scene especially walking up to the first tee. Didn’t know that you come right back down the hill to go to 1 fairway so I could have just brought driver instead of pushing my cart up the hill.
If Streamsong had commandments, number 1 would be “Thou shalt not bring thy own push cart”. I carried a heavy bag rounds 2 & 3 rather than using cart there. Black is the worst course for push cart I’ve ever seen
The sad part is I live in Florida and am from the south so I should’ve known better.
The second I was out of the fairway and on sand I regretted bringing my own. Especially the walk up to 1 tee. The only good thing about my push cart was the umbrella but I don’t think that outweighed the difficulty of pushing my cart through sand.
I got heat exhaustion playing Streamsong Blue a few Summers ago. No fun - puked after the round, etc. Stay hydrated folks!
Happened to me on Black! Played the front 9 and got saved by a rainstorm.
Jumped back out and played 10 and 11 and had to call it.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into and def picked the wrong course to walk after taking a cart on Red the previous day.
Soly’s rule of “if you don’t need to go to the bathroom every couple of holes, you aren’t drinking enough water” has been a valuable guide post.
Investing in one of those cooling towels and dedicating myself to the #VisorGang lifestyle has also proven to help beat the heat.
