Roll Call: Tampa Golfers

Seminole Lake isn’t the best architecture, but it’s good and when that place is in good shape I can’t imagine a much more lush public course. Dunedin is a Donald Ross but conditions are hit or miss, they’re good right now. I stay away from Mangrove Bay and Bardmoor on the weekends because I’ve had 5+ hour rounds there, but weekdays or late afternoons they’re a lot of fun. I tend to stay away from Cove Cay, just the worst of Florida target golf, but the holes on the water are cool. The Landings is the best executive course in America (not really but its fun and cheap. it’s where I learned the game).
In terms of instructors, I’ve heard great things about Matt Mitchell. I’ve always gone to Gregory McClimans at Clearwater and he knows what he’s talking about, but he’s also built my swing from the beginning so take that as you will.

Welcome!

Only three true public courses on the Tampa side: Rogers Park, Rocky Point, and Babe Zaharias. Haven’t played Babe but Rogers and Rocky are both just very typical muni golf. Nothing special layout or conditions wise, but cheap and easy to get on (also will let you walk, which can’t be said about many places). Lots of semi-private (or semi-public if you want to take the strapped angle) options around though, some which are better conditioned/more interesting than others.

Y’all, let’s put a round together soon to welcome @smorris15 to the area!

I have 7:30 at Rogers Park in east Tampa. But I’d open to canceling that for elsewhere if there is somewhere that works better and we can get out early on.

Also, I have two spots booked since they don’t let you book a single for 18 holes. Was just planning on calling this afternoon to say my second had to bail. So if you want to join, no need for you to reserve a spot.

Roost?

Would love for us to get together on a zoom/teams call after thanksgiving one night to float ideas, whomever has interest in the captaincy, etc. Get signed up!

Fellow Refugees, my wife and I are potentially staying at the Vinoy in St. Pete for a long weekend in January and looking to play some golf. Is the hotel course worth checking out? Have seen the positive feedback on World Woods, just trying to decide if we want to make the drive up. Is it hard to get tee times there or is that something that could be a game day decision? Thank you all for any advice/feedback.

Generally pretty easy to get tee times at world woods. I would certainly make the drive up if you can. Have never played the Vinoy course, so can’t help there.

The Vinoy course is nice. I’d play there over an hour plus drive to WW.

Starting Soon!

Okay kids - we’re booked. Three tee times on Blue 10:25, 10:35, 10:45. Right now we have 13 people for 12 tee times… Going to rely on the fact that someone usually drops out. If 13 show up, I’ll figure it out then.

Also - booked a forecaddie for each group. $25pp + gratuity. We can sort caddies out until Dec 20 - they close for the Dec 21-25.
