I am also new to The Nest. Trying to get my swing back after years away from Golf. I am over in the Lithia area. Play mostly on this side of the bay but would love to play some on the other side.
Iām also in Lithia/Fishhawk, used to play Cypress Creek all the time but just joined River Hills so have been playing there a lot.
I just joined out at River Hills myself last month. Really enjoying it so far! I like Cypress Creek quite a bit as well as itās still one of the few courses around where I can knock out a sub-3 hour round. But being out here in Fishhawk, River Hills is just way too convenient most of the time. Hope to see you out there!
Anybody been to Westchase recently? Played it a couple years ago and it was in good shape. Coming down next week and looks pretty reasonable on GolfNow.
How much is the membership out at River Hills? I have never played there but heard good things about there and Buckhorn.
I joined River hills via there GPS membership. $50 a month, unlimited practice and play for $25 after 12 during winter, after 1 once the time changes. I know I was spending $30+ a month at Ace golf for shitty range balls. I havenāt played Buckhorn yet but have good things.
Awesome. So similar to Bloomingdale ADP and closer. I will have to look into that. Thanks man.
Iāve played Buckhorn a few times, great course and excellent facility. If I was closer definitely a spot Iād join.
Iāve been out at Buckhorn for about 5 years. Itās great and you can always get a game but it gets a lot of play lately. I meanā¦a lot of play.
Is Buckhorn membership comparable to River Hills?
And because itās fully private itās not nearly as busy as Bloomingdale so you can actually play at a reasonable pace. Come check it out!
Itās a bit more expensive but not much.
River Hills is making nice strides since the membership group took over, but the golf course was neglected for a good 10 years. Theyāve got a ways to go.
Check out Feather Sound CC. I was a member there before I moved home to Pittsburgh, but its a solid golf course with renovations forthcoming. Good group of guys too. Technically not in Tampa proper, but its a short drive across the bay.
I canāt speak to prior to November but Iāve heard the greens have gotten a lot better at River Hills. So far Iāve been impressed there are about 2 or 3 greens that need some love. Same can be said for some of the fairways and rough, but it is Bermuda and oak trees so the edges always seem to suffer some. I havenāt gotten ingrained with too many other members besides a couple buddies that joined at the same time.
Feather could be so good. But it struggles to find an identity.
They are re-doing the entire golf course in May of this year and will likely be closed until November of ā22. The fact that they have yet to produce a master plan is a head scratcher.
They have a huge ability to draw from both Tampa and St. Pete, but fail to do so.
Been a minute since Iāve been on here! New job, a toddler, and COVID made for an interesting 2020.
I used to be a member at Buckhorn. Was always in great shape, in afternoons you could walk 18 in 3 hrs. Weekend mornings are insanely busy. Iām sure the same still applies now.
Havenāt played too much over last few months but did make it out to Rocky a few times. Was so-so. Last spring it was pristine (for as pristine as a City owned course can be) so hoping same will happen soonish.
For the base - not worth a 1 he drive. I live in S. Tampa and my dad is retired AF so thatās the course Iāve played the most. @NoLayovers described it perfectly - conditions right in line with cost. They never get too bad but will never be top notch, always fairly consistent. Iām for sure going to be looking into the longer term Civilian access. I called the course a few weeks ago and got a 5 day pass, they like to see you do that a few times before giving you the long term.
Whats up Tampa people. Recently moved down from Nashville. Still trying to find a solid group of golf buddies. Iām 26, I typically shoot 80ās unless God intervenes. message me if anyone ever needs a 4th. cheers!
Hey @gankasenergy. Welcome to Tampa. Iād be down to play sometime if you donāt mind playing with someone whoās gonna shoot 100 on a good day. What side of the bay are you on?
Sounds like we are in same group @DrJ I am typically around 100 but have golf goal to break 90 consistently this year.
Played Westchase yesterday. Fairways were in phenomenal shape. Greens were firm on approach shots. Overall course conditioning was awesome.
Itās a bit of target golf, especially on the back-9. Lot of par 4ās where the smartest play is hitting 3-iron, 9-iron. Not saying that is a bad thing, just something to keep in mind. Would recommend for anyone traveling south in the area, like me. Got out of KY just before the ice storm hit this week.
If you get a good rate on GolfNow, play it. I paid $71 and thought it was worth it.
