Also keen, busy all next week but will free up after then. Looks like I can’t do the 9th @imac25 but that could change.
How about Sunday 20th Sept? Otherwise Friday 23rd October if it needs to be a Friday?
St Micks was good, especially the comedy late arrival😀
I can’t do Sunday 20th (wife already booked a day away) or Friday 9th (last day of school holidays) but can do later in October.
Can do the 20th of September.
Some great tracks in Canberra and even better, time to play them because you don’t spend all weekend in traffic!
@Halfer I’ll have you know that late arrival was a very stressful way to start a round of golf. Took me at least 16 holes to settle in. Seeing as I only got to play 16 on the day, well I’d say that sounds like a pretty good excuse to me
@IB1985 I could definitely do a mid week round over the coming weeks/months. I could also do Sunday’s if we got the timing right (early morning or early afternoon starts preferred) and could give the wife enough notice.
It’s looking like I might be in the door at Concord at some point in October, so could do an October invitational if the stars aligned and anyone was keen.
Sounds good mate. I can do mid week if it’s a Tuesday or Thursday very early tee time.
Concord looks siiiick!
Sunday 20th might work for me, like @GMac says if we can get an early morning time. I’ve booked a time at Long reef for 25/09 at 6am, super early but if anyone is keen to join, let me know.
Let’s do it, who’s playing the last post?
Gents 20th doesn’t actually work for me but if you are playing the coast I will keep an eye out for. Have a mates wedding at Little Bay Chapel! How does Sunday 27th suit?
Fellas; went out and played some country tracks over the weekend that need some recognition.
Henbury GC in Kandos; this was the one i was most looking forward to play. Quick visit to the website and you’ll see that a couple of Golf course architects had their hand in it. Splendid layout; a lot of driver holes and couple of 200m par 3s. Not a lot of interest in the greens as i think most used to be sand greens; but you did not want to miss them in the wrong places which led to a lot of tough chips. This is a course run by almost all volunteers. The only thing letting it down was the tonne of weeds on the fairways (those yellow flowers). But thats to be expected and for only $15; great locals and cold beers in the clubhouse afterwards too. Wouldnt drive here just to play Henbury again; but if you where in and around Mudgee or around the area would reccomend. As i said great layout.
Oberon GC in the next post.
Oberon GC was a huge surprise; also by some architect bloke. Oberon is another one of those towns that just isnt on the way to anything. There is no reason to get off the highway to go there; except now. This might be one of the bigger hidden gems going around; up there with Maleny and Gerringong. The first hole is a pretty straight forward par 3. Then you walk 300m to the 2nd tee box and the course just starts;
Most of the greens where scarified; but you could tell how good they where. In your face in places and subtle in others. Would love to play again when the greens where dialed up and the course dired out a bit (it snowed). Different to Henbury; a lot of holes take driver out of you hand - unless you want to try and cut some corners. The land movement is really cool and with it dried out you could get some awesome run outs and kicks off the side of some greens. This course has one full time greens keeper and talking to the bloke who opened up the clubhouse for us there biggest issue at the moment was keeping the rough in check. We where the only idiots out there in the wind/ rain/ sleet/ hail and snow; but a couple of guys came and opened the clubhouse on a Friday arvo and we could warm up with some beers and the best chips and gravy.
Cannot reccomend getting out to some of these country courses right now that its starting to warm up and the amount of rain they’ve had over winter. They’ll be in the best condition in years.
Gerringong GC is SUCH a good track. The back 9 gets me every time.
Anyone keen for a hit next Thurs?
Pencil me in, might have a work deadline end of next week but good chance it’ll push out a bit.
Sounds good mate!
I’m out, have sustained a DJ type dodgy excuse injury (incurred wrestling my children rather than falling down stairs/snorting blow). Went to the range today & it’s not playable yet, will rest for another few weeks then try again…
Shout out to the endangered frogs at Brighton, saved me five shots I reckon. Pretty nice out there.
Sydney City Council voted last night to reduce Moore Park to 9 holes from 18. 6 to 3 in favour. They do 60000 rounds a year! Most other courses in the vicinity are private and expensive. Or already busy. Bad news for golfers. Clover Moore not doing the game any favours.
