I’ve always found Oak Hills to be notoriously hard to get in touch with if it makes you feel any better

Charleston may be similar drive to Aiken. Similar temps tomorrow, but probably more to do if the golf is unattainable.

A PM tee time followed by dinner at Palmira BBQ would be a helluva day

Another option would be to see if Camden CC would let you on. Great Ross course, good meal oppt at either B Colsons or Salud downtown.

Camden is Sandhills golf, on the same swath of soil as Pinehurst, just a couple hundred miles south. About half the drive time as Aiken and Charleston too. With the soil composition, there would be no problem with drainage except maybe the 15th hole, which sits near a creek.

I don’t know their weather outlook, but its a great course.

1:09 at the Charleston muni? Too far to drive is my first thought.

Looking to book times (two foursomes) at Charleston Municipal in a few weeks. Is it as much of a pain in the ass as it appears to be? First day I’ve gone on the website and every time until 3pm is sold out in mins. Do we have a Bethpage situation? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Times get grabbed up quickly yes. The path to success is not that crazy though.

Create an account ahead of time and be fully signed in at 6:55 a week ahead of play.
Select day and foursomes in the search filter.
Search and refresh leading up to 7:00.
Grab the closest tee time you can and check out completely for that one single foursome.

Have a couple / few people do this and you’ll get a mix.

You can practice all this ahead of time for days that you don’t plan to use and just cancel the tee time and give them back.

We had a few people do this for a December event and were very successful.

excellent. much appreciated.

Fallback plan is to search periodically throughout the week and grab times as people cancel.

If the practice area isn’t congested, it’s real fun to do a series of prop match play holes.

Yea the fallback plan is kind of fun, like trying to hit when dealer showing Ace. With that said he’s unlikely getting two foursomes that way. That’s a move for 1 4some at the most.

Correct. Sometimes you can get lucky and improve a schedule. Yesterday I grabbed a 3ball and a single came up in the group ahead so I grabbed that. We ended up with 3 players but it probably would have worked to go as 4.

Your Muni round payment also gets you play all day. I played 18 at 9:00 and another 18 after lunch. Free replay is killer.

Didn’t know this! I’ve been itching to get back down there from the midlands and play a round or two. I’m assuming it is based on availability?

Yes. After lunch yesterday it was more open on the second 9 so I floated that idea and they put me there.

So if i want to play at 7am on a monday morning, on my visit from Scotland in April, I’ll need to login at about midnight the previous Sunday or Monday?

Good job Bacon Park is easier to book.

1 week ahead 7am Eastern standard time is when tee times open.
Do a test run well ahead of time to be sure of your process.

7am ET, noon in the UK, is perfect for me! I appreciate that.

Let us know when you’re coming, we’ve got flocking roosters in Charleston and Savannah.

Is the muni good enough I should attempt this for me, my bil and fil, instead of playing Wild dunes links course when we at IOP?

Have to imagine one round at WD can fund your entire 4some at the Muni. But if budget is zero concern, I’d put the question to the group of whether you put a premium on scenic, beachy golf resort or old school, nerdy GCA holes trying to punch you in the dick, with a working class feel.

I like WD as it’s a sneaky Strantz.

But I like the C. Bissel Jenkins Memorial Links City of Charleston Municipal Golf Course as well.
