Hey @albertik89 you’ll have some fellow NLU fans at Sweetens with you next week as well
Hah yes he’s riding up with me! We are neighbors actually in Snee Farm. Can’t wait
Ok, fair enough. Need you both to get more involved with @PalmettoGolfSociety so I can recognize your names and faces!
For sure, let us know if you guys ever want to get out at Snee
Okay. 2 weeks coming up at Ft jackson
What breweries. Bars. Restaurants should i hit up?
I’ve been a few times over the past 15 years for some good amount of periods but always love to add in new places.
Funny how my focus has changed over the years. Longest amount of time was in 2010 and I was young and dumb and didn’t really venture out much.
Got better in ‘15 and ‘18. But really short trips in the last 6 months have been the best going to more local and downtown places.
What part of town are you staying?
Steel Hands (Cayce, kind of remote-ish) and Savage Craft (West Columbia) are my two favorites in town, with Columbia Craft (downtown near arena) close 3rd.
Savage is a great happy hour spot when the weather is nice. Lots of outdoor space.
Another cool spot is the Hangar. It’s a craft brewery in an old plane hangar on the municipal airport runway. Good pretzels and pizza.
I’ll be staying on Post, But since I’ll be there for two weeks, I’ve got time to travel all over the place.
I did go to Savage in June, and really enjoyed it.
How about coffee spots? I did koala back in Jan, on way to airport, was pretty good
ahh I’m not much of a coffee connoisseur. Hopefully some of the other folks here can help you out.
Indah Coffee and Curiosity Coffee Bar get high marks are both near each other in the North Main area. I prefer Curiosity but both are decent Indah also has a spot downtown in the Arcade. Piecewise out of Cayce just opened a second location on Devine St that may be closest to FTJ. They use a local bakery and source their coffee from Methodical out of Greenville (shoutout to Curtis Luck and the NLU guys). Drip in Five Points and Cool Beans on College St will have more of an eclectic college vibe but they are fine. Immaculate Consumption near the State House used to have good breakfast bites but it’s a really small shop and they are closed on the weekends.
Thanks guys
Edit- Class is pretty much 8 to 5, so it makes it a little tough to get to some of the spots that are only open in the am, but I was thinking about using my lunch breaks to travel around and see some of the coffee places.
Drip and Cool Beans are open until 10 and Indah is open until 7.
Wild Wing Avocet is another course worth checking out, IMO.
In terms of food, if you are looking for quality, Aspen Grille and Hook & Barrel are good. River City cafe for burgers, Co sushi at Market Common is a winner, as is King Street Grille if you want a sports bar.
Thanks again for the recommendations. Sweetens is so awesome, can’t wait to go back. We hit Top of the Rock for dinner Thursday and stayed in the other two nights. Everyone was exhausted after two full days of golf
If you have time, go to Craft and Draft on Devine St. Local beer bar that usually has a food truck, but great selection of local (NC/SE/Southeast) beers on tap and cans. I am there Friday afternoons about 98% of the time letting my children run wild on the back porch so if you see a guy with a mug that has a Nest logo on it, that’d be me.
Restaurants close to post I 100% always recommend Tacos Nayarit. I’d eat there multiple times if I were you.
Absolutely why you should NOT go to Craft and Draft
Oh please, don’t come. Its much better with less people there.
Kids at Craft and Draft are infinitely better than getting roped into a “yappy hour” at Jake’s. That’s the seventh circle of hell for me.
I moved out to the fringes of society so it takes too much effort now. I’ll just start living the country club life now.
