Meanwhile, golfers down in the lowcountry.
@Akarito @wblove and @bpaul1166
but also we have a Cannon Crew roster with locations of guys so if you want to put a bat signal out you can: Palmetto Cannon Crew Roost - Google Sheets
Also I know from personal experience @Stephen will drive to the Charleston area just to play 18 on even the most normal of “it’s not a good day to play” days
There’s a bunch of us down here, just no one playing the Luke role in organizing us.
Thanks for the welcome, @EZmiss! Great to know there’s a strong contingent in the Upstate.
The roost program for this next season will hopefully help that happen more organically. To be fair I am terrible with playing with anyone in Columbia…
Welcome Steve!
I’ll be away for next three weeks but let’s get out later in August.
Cheers!
Yes I am absolutely willing to daytrip for fun golf and good company— though it be the day after Christmas, and then blow a tire and cost myself an extra hour and $200.
I also did Columbia->Cheraw State Park->Mid Pines in a rain storm and home for 36 holes on a Sunday last summer, so I am generally down.
Been snooping on this thread for about a year now. I currently live in Statesboro, GA but am going to be moving to Spartanburg at some point in the next few months. Definitely looking to get acclimated with the Upstate golf scene. Attended an NLU event at Lexington CC last year, but haven’t been able to make the trip for any other SC events (Statesboro is basically no mans land-2 hours to Hilton Head, 2.5 hours to Charleston, 2 hours to Aiken, 3 hours to Atlanta )
Anyway, any suggestions of places to look at playing in Spartanburg? I have a bit of familiarity with the Greenville area, but was going to be looking for somewhere closer to Spartanburg. Also hoping that now I will actually be in the Upstate, I can be more involved with the SC Roost!
That’s true degenerate golfer status. And I for one, Good Sir, am envious.
CC of Spartanburg, Woodfin Ridge, Carolina CC, and Willow Creek are the few I’ve played worth checking out. Two of those (the CC) are private.
Have you been to village greens yet?
Yes, I have. 18 is one of the worst par fives in the state
can’t wait. going next monday haha
I’ve only ever played it in scrambles, so for that it is fine. Let us know what you think.
I’ve been there once. For my sisters sorority golf tournament. I broke my rule of drinking on the golf course and don’t remember a damn thing.
Hey Folks,
I will be vacationing with family at IoP in early September. I am ~10 hcp but will be with 20+ folks. Based on this thread and some research online here is what sounds like of my 3 best options–based on proximity-- ranked on order of appeal.
- Dunes West
- Patriot Point
- Charleston National
From what I read, Patriot Point is so so, Charleston National is a bit punishing, narrow, lined with houses and OB but Dunes West is solid choice and “underrated”
And advice, confirm my research?
I think that is a pretty accurate list. If you wanted to add the Wild Dunes courses(most convenient for you, but also the most expensive) I’d say 1. WD Links 2/3. DW/RiverTowne 4. WD Harbor 5/6. PP/CN. The Muni is a bit further from IoP but for bang for your buck, it would rank near the top. It is a little tricky to get tee times if you haven’t done it before
If you’re on IOP, Wild Dunes should be on your list. I’m biased but I’d play either course there before a 6-hour round at PP and National vs Harbor is a wash (but probably 25 min shorter drive). Links is pretty darn good, but you’re also paying for it.
I was on IoP last week. Skipped out on the courses more expensive and closer to us. Drove 30 min to Muni and had a blast navigating the greens there.
If you want help scheduling a tee time there, they were very responsive when I emailed and asked for help for some out of towners a couple weeks in advance.
Awesome! Thank you so much, all. Yea, once I saw that I need to call to make find out prices for Wild Dunes, I knew it was probably out of range for my more casual golfing family members. I’ll have to make this priority next time. We may opt for the Muni track since family may want to save a buck, hoping they’re in for a real treat though and we’ll try Dunes West.
