Yep, they are related to Dick Groat… rumor has it they are taking over once Dick retires
Brooks dad has been spending a lot more time in the area than ever before. I’ve heard he’s interested in getting into the ownership as well. They are dumping a lot of resources and money into the course recently. Part of me wonders if that is Dicks goal and wish before he passes.
Yes I agree… brooks’ dad has a house in Ligonier. I think champion lakes could be a gold mine! I drive past it most days from school and there is a couple cars in the parking lot and then I get to my course Latrobe Elks and the parking lot is full… I know Champion is not the best location but still a solid course.
If any of you are bored in the midst of winter and want to play some indoor golf… we are hosting a fundraiser for the UPJ Golf Team.
Sounds cool…will try to make it
After listening to the latest nest pod we really need to grow the Pittsburgh Roost out. If only to get a name out there.
NorthEastMidWestAtlanticAchia Roost
Pittsburgh got quickly called out in latest nest pod in their roost discussion regarding our geography lol sounds like we won’t be official this year but I’m still down for some meet ups!
I will die on the hill that anyone who calls Pittsburgh mid west is a fucking moron.
We need to somehow become like a super Roost and define our own region
Hey all, need some help/recommendations. Recently my work opened a Pittsburgh branch and I’m genuinely thinking about making the move. Any recommendations on neighborhoods, maybe close to decent courses?
What part of the City is the Branch located? I live in the South Hills there are some good public tracks and some good clubs to join. Also depends if you a single dude or if you got a family in tow.
Single, and the branch will be downtown in a coworking office. South hills, I’ll check it out!
Yeah totally depends on where you are in life. We live in the east end (Point Breeze) and love it but our house is starting to get too small with 2 kids so we’re looking to move north to Fox Chapel/O’Hara. I’m partial to the east end of the city, easy to commute to downtown and a lot to go to in the neighboring areas
And I should say, that our plan to move north has a very small travel diameter so we’re no more than 15 minutes from our current house/friends
Yea I guess golf aside too little neighborhood spots would be great, as I 100% wouldn’t not be a southside/north shore guy I think haha
I’ll say this at the possibility of alienating people but if you’re in the south hills you rarely come into town…mainly bc you got a tunnel and bridge to deal with
North Hills area- Mccandless/Hampton/pine twp/ Richland are all nice areas, but spendy. Same with Ohara/Fox Chapel, but they get you a little closer to the city.
East of the city gets tricky. most parts of Edgewood, Churchill, Wilkins are pretty nice. I live in Penn Hills, I grew up there, its what I know, but we get some crime in the area. I live close to the Plum boro boarder which still pretty decent, quiet neighborhood. If you dont mind the commute though I’d look close to the Westmoreland county boarder (Murrysville area).
South and west kind of merge up city wise South Hills is nice, but driving that Route 51 corridor everyday…woof
I cant speak on much of the south/west golf but the Eastern side of the city gives you a ton of options and tiers:
High End: Oakmont, PFC, Fox Chapel, and even throw Long Vue into that category. All of those are within a 15 minute drive of each other but I dont got it like that to get into them so I wouldnt know where to start
Middle tier: There’s some pretty affordable CC’s around the area, Edgewood and Green oaks off the top of my head would probably be the high end of these. Both Ross’. Westmoreland, Greensburg, Willowbrook, Hill Crest (where I belong) all have real affordable social member packages that increase every year, Plus a lot of them have privileges with the others ( http://www.tricountygolf.com/)
Public: I feel like Totteridge and Birdsfoot are the best public tracks in the area (Birdsfoot gets a ton of play) both within 45 minutes of the east. Aside from them you got 20+ options within 30-45 mins that range from shit tracks to underrated depending on who you talk to.
Really good summary here
My man, thank you so much! This is so so needed haha
Single guy working downtown. I’d pick city living. Southside, Northside, Lawrenceville, Shadyside Garfield, Squirrel Hill, or even downtown now you might find some deals since it has mostly been deserted due to CoVid. You’re gonna have to drive to golf, but everything else is closer/more fun.
South hills probably isn’t the way to go without a fam unless you like suburban living.
