Works for me, earlier the better
I’ll shoot for a tee time closer to 7am
Hey. Going to be moving to PHX area in a couple months, would love to get involved with the Roost there to play some events and get together with peeps. Is this a good place to start? ![]()
Hey Shane! Great place to start. Stoked to add another player to @DryHeat. Our captain is @RolandOfGilead who is based in Albuquerque (our roost has members in AZ, NM, and UT) and will get you all squared away to join the roost. We have a solid group of golfers down here who would love to get a game going with you. Let us know when you’re all settled with the move and we’ll tee it up.
Sounds great! Thanks for the help. Looking forward to it! ![]()
I wish I could. If I quit my job before you get 2 more I’ll let you know
I can’t say I haven’t considered doing that before as well. I did quit it to go on a vacation once though. We’ll be playing down there plenty this summer (shameless plug for their Summer 6 Pack) so stay tuned for more opportunities. Are you out all Saturdays due to work or does your schedule vary?
Currently yes, out on saturdays for work. I am changing jobs soon and then it won’t be an issue, I just don’t know exactly when yet as I have to get licensed and stuff for the new job, but then my golf schedule should open up big time

Well, I was able to call and get the first 2 tee times after the “normal Sunday groups”. While they understood we’d only be playing 4 balls per hole, they nixed all 8 of us playing together due to the perception of it. So we’ll just split up into 2 foursomes, and play alt shot from there.
Tee times are 8:00 & 8:08 Sunday, July 30th.
The winning team gets one 12-pack each
Apologies for dive bombing into this thread, but my wife and I are headed to Phoenix/Scottsdale for our anniversary in Sept and was looking for some local recommendations on good food. Can range anywhere from fine dining to great granb-and-go lunch spots. I believe we’re going to be staying at the Phoenician if that helps narrow the location. Thanks in advance!
I haven’t been yet, but one of the best rated pizza places in America is just a few miles down the road off Camelback, Pizzeria Bianco.
Is there a secret to going there at a good time. I’ve read wait times can be crazy long.
The Camelback location isn’t the original, but it looks like they do offer limited reservations for dinner. Other than that, I’m assuming midweek around 2 or 3 would be less of a wait
I’m down in Tucson but here are a couple of my favs when I’m up there:
- Alo Cafe - vibey breakfast and lunch
- Fourtillfour Cafe - excellent coffee spot
- Gelato Cimmino - self explanatory
If you’re in the mood for super fine dining then my recommendation is Cafe Monarch in Old Town Scottsdale.
Otherwise for a more casual place go for Belly Kitchen Bar in Phoenix. It’s Asian fusion and the cocktails are solid. I definitely recommend the fried chicken
Some ideas specific to Old Town, which is pretty close to the Phoenician and always a fun place to hang out…
Old Town:
The Mission – High-end Mexican with a fun vibe.
Citizens Public House – American. Cool rotating menu and great bar.
Culinary Dropout Fashion Square – American. Casual with some cool food concepts.
Olive & Ivy – I like it for lunch as it has some really good sandwiches.
Café Monarch – Fantastic elevated dining experience. Pre-fixed but worth the price they charge. I received a $100 gift card for it, and it barely covered the tip for dinner for 2.
Steakhouses – All these provide the “high-end” steakhouse experience. I’ve listed them as I’d rate them.
Mastros City Hall
Ocean 44
Toca Madera – Mexican Steakhouse. Kind of a crazy vibe, but fun and great people watching.
Bourbon & Bones
Maple & Ash
STK Steakhouse – I’m listing but have not gone there.
Chelsea’s Kitchen is a mile or two west of the Phoenician on Camelback. I can’t recommend it enough. Classy but accessible, big smoker out front, lot of great modern American comfort food. The prime rib is absurd.
You are all amazing. Thanks for the reccos!
Bumping this. We got 2 more spots open for a round of Alt Shot Sunday morning (7/30) at Cave Creek.
@beriganr @Jpop942 @JosieWon @wiz @Waffles
So when I checked tee times for next Sunday this morning, 6:00 and 6:08 were available. I went ahead and claimed those as well to give us an extra option.
I know some of you mentioned you preferred starting earlier, so does this work and I’ll cancel the 8am times?
