Update: 2 spots available for 9:20am on Tuesday 11/22.

Where?

Cave Creek GC

Bumping this. Still have one, possibly two (TBD), spots available.

Edit: removed the two slots but they’re now available online if anyone wants to/is able to join.

I hopped on this tee time. See you Friday!

Coming to Tucson from NE for 3 days in late January. Been to Phoenix several times but never been to Tucson. What are the course’s we need to look at playing over those 3 days? Hoping to get 18 or more in each day.

Tucson resident here! What kind of golf course are you interested in? Price range? Any other desires or preferences?

Happy to provide some recs and would love to join in while you’re here!

Just interested in playing the best or most memorable courses in the area. Open to paying whatever as long as the price point matches the quality of the experience.

Heading down with some buddies next week to play a few rounds. Deciding between Talking Stick Oodham and Whirlwind. Any input? Whirlwind is slightly more spendy on this particular day.

Southern Dunes is already on the itinerary as it’s easily my favorite place I’ve played down there. I basically just try to avoid any courses with houses. Bear Creek is on the docket too as the cheaper place. Obviously would love to do We Ko Pa but can’t quite make that one work.

My personal vote would be Talking Stick over Whirlwind.

I would concur with @KMola14. Talking Stick Oodham is the preferable course. Very good grouping of holes and options. I would highly recommend playing from the correct tees or shorter than your average, the course can be an absolute bear if it is playing long.

Ventana Canyon (Mountain) is the best public option in Tucson, pretty easily.

Dove Mountain (former host of the Match Play) is also a good one. Best if you can play the Saguaro/Tortolita combo (that’s the tournament rota) but Wild Burro is not bad by any means. They had made noises about going private but are still offering public tee times, so.

After that, number three in town for me is probably Sewailo. More on flat land but a wild experience ofa course with desert, water, waterfalls, centerline hazards, and all kinds of holes where you can cut corners for great reward … or not. It’s something to experience. Can be a ton of fun or an absolute beast when the wind blows.

Other courses to consider would be:

  • the other Ventana Canyon course (called the Canyon) which has two very disjointed nines because they were built at separate times, but plenty of good holes
  • Randolph North, the city’s best muni
  • Arizona National, an often goofy but occasionally fun ride up and down the hills on the east side of town
  • Starr Pass is a resort track. I’m not a huge fan of the newer nine here but if you’ve come to Tucson for desert golf you will find it here. Phil won the Tucson Open as an am here.
  • Tucson National was the more common home of the Tucson Open and now the Dump In a Box Classic. That’s played over the ho hum Catalina Course, which is parkland and nothing to write home about. The Sonoran Course has some awkward holes early, but the best golf on the property is on the Sonoran east of the wash.

There are also some private clubs that can be reasonable accessible. The Gallery has two courses and one can often be accessed. The South was once the Match Play home (Tiger won it there once) and the North was an alt site for the Tucson Open. La Paloma is a tough Nicklaus course open to resort guests and members. Fun if you’re into that whole Jack-as-the-ultimate-examiner thing.
