Roll Call: Orlando, FL Golfers

We ended up playing the Links Course both days and really enjoyed it. The clubhouse and construction situation isn’t ideal, but the course itself was a lot of fun for all playing abilities.

Thank you for the recommendations!

Also, that Evermore they are building right there is going to be insane.

This is super helpful.

We are staying at a house in the reunion resort of location makes a difference.

Are those courses any good?

I may make the drive to Streamsong on 12/29 for my birthday. Then would like to play WP9.

Watson Course at Reunion is the best of the 3. Beware the center-line bunkers. I’d play it over ChampionsGate or Disney courses.

I am playing the Watson course on Friday and winter park tomorrow. Anybody have a suggestion for a non Disney course or looking to fill out a tee time this week?

Me next month!

I’m with my in laws so we have 16 of us total, including 8 kids.

Any non-park recommendations?

Coffee shops?

Restaurants?

Local butchers or fish mongers?

Hell I don’t know any other type of errand I can run for a couple hours to get out of the house.

Anyone looking to play on Saturday, I have a TT at Legends in Clermont

Orlando Homies - my regular january golf trip to fort myers got switched to Orlando. 3 rounds - hawks landing, crooked cat, southern dunes. Anything we need to be aware of? Conditions ok? The rental houses you can get in orlando for a big group are outrageous!

Wide shot dispersions are going to get punished at Hawk’s Landing. Can’t speak to current conditions on any of them, but generally they all do a nice job keeping things nice for the winter. Southern Dunes in dry conditions is :pinched_fingers:.

So Hawks is a good round to avoid getting paired with the three 20+ handicaps in the group! Got it. Solid info right there!

Also budget 5hr for your OCN Crooked Cat round. Tons of play during the winter, and it just backs up. Fun course though.

If you guys had to choose 1 round between hawks landing, legends, and Forest lake for a 8 man trip with hcaps ranging from 4-24 and the goal being fun and minimize lost balls. What are you picking?

Definitely Legends - it’s pretty hard to lose a ball out there. Plus the layout is cool and the conditions have been good every time I’ve played it.

I agree with @bogeytax. The layout is cool and you get some elevation changes that you don’t normally see with Central Florida golf. You’re also much less likely to have a 5+ hour round at Legends over Forest Lake.

Also agree with Josh and Drew that Legends is probably the right venue. Hawk’s Landing would only be necessary if your group was expecting the Florida resort golf experience with valet parking, food/drink amenities attached to the hotel, etc. Legends is the neighborhood spot, but provides a fun day of golf.

Hello Splash of OJ Nestizens, coming to Orlando the weekend after next for a family vacation, and four of us are looking to get out to play an early morning round Saturday. We are staying at the Story Lake resort in Kissimmee. Looking for a course ideally less than 30 minutes away and under $150 because we will all likely need to rent clubs.

Reading through this thread, southern dunes looks pretty intriguing. Roughly how far is the drive there from Kissimmee? And does anyone know if they rent clubs?

Speaking of renting clubs, do most courses have them or are there independent rental companies in the area you all would recommend?

Any other courses in the area that fit the bill for this short notice idea (besides Legends just mentioned above)?

Southern Dunes is going to be on the edge of your 30 min radius at 25 miles with stretches on I-4 and Hwy 17. Rack rate in December is $95. Grand Cypress Links Course is much closer, but a bit pricier at $135. As you can see upthread these two tend to get the most recommendations. ChampionsGate CC (not the resort) could be another option, but would be ranked below these two.

Due to declining conditions, can’t recommend the closest options Falcon’s Fire or Celebration. Someone else would have to comment on conditions at Orange Lake Resort. Disney courses probably aren’t the right value.

Most courses have rentals but you’ll want to confirm by phone. Independent rentals are usually a drop ship operation. I think there’s an operation called ProSets that operates through Edwin Watts golf shops, could be a local option to price compare.

Orange Lake Legends is solid, Disney courses are always great condition but some of if not the worse pace of play in Central FL. They do have the best quality of rental sets that is for sure.

I played the Disney Courses two weeks ago and can confirm they are currently overpriced. I think LBV and Palms are the only 18 hole courses open, and LBVs conditioning was spotty at best. The 15th green at LBV looked worse than some Baltimore Munis.

That said shot a personal best, so if you want to feel good about your game allow me to suggest LBV.

Really helpful, thanks for the replies thus far. Never would have know ChampionsGate CC and GC are different.
