Roll Call: Oregon

Usually layout focused—value is cool but I’m much more focused on seeing a memorable property (with pacey golfers). In other words, what courses make Bend residents proud to live there?

I’m still looking for the pacey golfers but:
Tetherow
Pronghorn
Crosswater

Outside of that you pretty much need to go private for good layouts. Lots of decent reasonably priced public courses but I don’t think anyone would refer to them as memorable.

Edit:
I’ll add - good definitely isn’t the reason people are living here. I wouldn’t consider it a golf focused town at all.

Appreciate the help— will add Pronghorn to the list. Definitely not headed to Bend for golf, but will be playing every weekend regardless of locale.

New here, but I’m in Albany as well. Welcome! Even if it’s a little late.

We were able to get a hook up to play Broken Top last summer and it was a great time, if not a little chintzy.

Pronghorn is great but pretty pricy, worth it though.

The courses at Eagle Crest aren’t great, but their putting course is fantastic. Grab a couple cold ones and a super fun way to end an evening of golf.

Cheers!

I live in California but I grew up in Oregon and went to college at UO and then lived in PDX for two years. I just wanted everyone to know that I lurk on this thread and am insanely jealous. I want to move back badly.

Thanks! Paywall happens in a few days and then I’m out. If you or anyone else want to connect, despite the paywall, DM me and we can swap contact info to make something happe in the future. Closing on our house in Salem in two weeks, so anyone in that area or nearby, I’m still happy to meet up.

New guy here. Re-discovering game after a 10 year break. My girlfriend and own a small business and finally have time to enjoy the game again. Unfortunately none of my friends play so looking forward to connecting with some new folks ( live in Portland metro)

Diamond Woods is worth the trip imo. Challenging and interesting (unless you’re playing the tips which are downright unfair), but a lot of elevation change so if you’re walking it can be tough. Fees there are also reasonable.

The back 9 is a horrendous walk

I did it twice in July and it almost killed me.

nice family owns and runs it
nice Inn to stay and play on site
PGA pros Webb Simpson and Matt Jones shot 64 and 63 (course record) respectively

Doesn’t look like I can PM you. As someone who is self-employed myself, I’m always curious what others do, and the time it affords to play golf. What’s your business?

We’re moving up to Salem in about a month. Would love to make the drive and meet up somewhere.

My girlfriend and I own a scratch ice cream/bakery in downtown Vancouver,Wa. My goal is to carve out time for golf early in the week like Monday-Wednesday

Love it. If you’re game, let’s try to get together this spring, as I’m super flexible as well.

Sounds good. After being out of the game for 10 years and sold my clubs I’m re building a bag from scratch. Went with Titleist tsi3 driver / 3 wood. Just waiting on irons to be delivered ( Taylor Made P7-MC ) they have been on back order forever. May cancel and get Mizuno JPX 921Tour if I can get them sooner. Have a trip to Bandon scheduled in late February so I need to get used to them ASAP

Where do you like to play? I plan on hitting Heron Lakes and some other PDX courses pretty often when the weather gets better. I work in downtown Vancouver as well and can get out most days.

I’m open to play anywhere. I’ll hit you up when my irons arrive and I get going again.

Diamond is a great course. It’s not the same I first played there '95ish. Yeah it 18 now.

Portlander, self employed, and golfs often. Story time… I was at Red Tail yesterday next to a gui in a NLU hat and he was hitting blades. I was a bit much on the edibles so I couldn’t build the urge to ask if he was also YOTB’ing, then I noticed the thread was gone. He didn’t have a YOTB towel but did have a NLU towel on his bag. Still confused how this all transpired, and the events melted my head. I went on to question what life is really about. The blade was the answer.
