Roll Call: Omaha/Lincoln

Played Players club for the first time last week. Is there a worse walking course in Omaha?

Not at all - especially the back 9 is awful

It has to top the list. Tregaron probably is the worst public course for walking.

The golf course got in the way of a housing development

I’ve been tasked with planning a summer group trip out west. A few questions for my fellow Nebraskans.

Booking the trip: For those that have done a golf the west type trip, how have you booked it? Is it something you can just plan on your own this far out? Or do you recommend just going through Golf Nebraska?

Courses: Definitely want to get Wild Horse plus open to Bayside and/or Awarii Dunes. Any other courses I’m missing? Is it worth it to try to get all 3 courses or better to just stick to one or two given the additional drive time?

Basically, if you’ve done one of these weekends successfully, I’ll take any advice or itineraries!

Not sure if awarii dunes got whatever is going on there sorted for the coming season but if you look further up in this thread you’ll see some pictures, the course was in unplayable condition

I know Wild Horse times aren’t open until March and are 3 weeks in advance unless you call directly to plan something (I was looking for a potential Great Plains outing).

I’m curious what others have to say. I was thinking about a Wild Horse/Bayside/Prairie Club trip next year.

P Club is highly underrated as a group trip destination. Daily rate, short course with no extra fee that hardly anyone uses.

Also Fredrick’s peak in Valentine allegedly rips.

Make sure to use google maps and look at how much driving is in between each place and how much you actually want to spend in the car.

If you’re doing weekdays at those courses it shouldn’t be any issue at all to get times. I have pulled that off multiple times. I would guess Sat/Sun at Wild Horse or P Club might be a different story.

Second the notion to skip Awarii.

Geographically, I prob wouldn’t put Bayside and P Club in same trip unless you love windshield time.

There was some 9 holer north of North Platte, on the way from Wild Horse to P Club, that the dude on the Fried Egg pod about Nebraska golf just loved.

Can confirm, frederick peake does in fact absolutely rip. Bayside is very interesting and stimulating as a course but i’m still not sure if I actually enjoyed it 6 months later. Prairie Club and Wildhorse are incredible, would love to make a trip out of those two courses every year

Calling ahead to Wildhorse absolutely buys you more time ahead but who knows with Awarii. Augusta Wind and Pelican are the two off the beaten path allegedly worthy of a detour off I-80 trip. If Awarii is still battling employee and turf demons I’ve always like meadowlark hills in Kearney, although that’s more like a b+ Omaha parkland course and I haven’t been to the Cairo course. You’ll want to stay in the Bayside cabins as town is a ways away. Pals has a BnB in North Platte depending on how many guys you have, but it’s a convenient pit stop regardless. Ole’s lounge should be a mandatory stop too for a pack of dudes, it’s hilarious.

If we’re talking northern Nebraska and you don’t go to Fred Peak you shouldn’t be on this message board.

As a member, I don’t like that it’s not walkable. I enjoy walking while playing every so often and wish I had the opportunity to do it more, but I don’t like walking an additional 9 between greens & tees.

Have a few beers there and look around for sure…but go across the street to the Windy Gap to eat. Ole’s food is…to put it politely…hit or miss.

Come on over this year for the best nest event going!

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about the adjustments for the NebGolf tournaments this year that went out via e-mail…

Maximum WH Index has been lowered in the four tournaments that I’d consider entering…

Nebraska Four-Ball - 7.0 to 5.0.

Nebraska Amateur - 6.0 to 4.0.

Nebraska Match Play - 6.0 to 4.0.

Nebraska Mid-Amateur - 7.0 to 5.0.

I get it and am not bitching about it. I’ve been in groups at some of these events and thought and suffered through some really long rounds waiting for people to shoot over 100. I’ve been the guy in the group who struggles and hangs a 92 in a match play qualifier as a 5.9.

Part of me is mad at myself for not really ever practicing or trying actively to get better at golf…my half-assed approach would have at least let me try for the Mid-Am, but now I’ll have to get a lot better and hope that there are spots left by the time my index drops. Kind of a kick in the nuts, kind of a wake up call.

Maybe this is the motivation I need…or is the bell tolling for my NebGolf playing career.

I must have missed that email. Frankly, I’ve always been afraid of embarrassing myself in these tournaments even when I had my handicap at it’s lowest at like 4.2.

If enough people are entering even with this lower handicap max then not much I could say to complain about it as I’m sure it leads to better pace and competition. But it definitely means I’m less likely to ever enter.

I’m curious the reasoning for this.

Maybe lower the Fourball handicap so it doesn’t fill up in seconds…

I’ve only played in four events…so I’m not some seasoned veteran who has contributed anything but my entry fee. I think the only way to embarrass yourself in a state association event is to act like an idiot.

Same. Makes sense with the Fourball at Prairie Club.
