Played it for the first time in October last year and thought it was pretty fun. They had a really rough winter leading in to spring 2022 where I believe they “lost” a couple of greens and a few fairways. When we played they had some trouble spots in their fairways (looked like some serious mole or other digging animal issues; we just played those spots as GUR and got relief), but from what I’ve seen online this year they’ve really improved that. Yes some of the greens and holes are a little wonky but our group found that to be a fun changeup from typical parkland golf. Get a yardage book because you’ll need it to help pick out target lines on many tee and approach shots.
My main critique is it is designed to play firm/fast and just never does. I’ve logged probably 5-6 rounds there and always catch it in a spongy state. Plays more like target golf then get the ball on the ground.
Was debating getting a yardage book, will definitely pull the trigger on one now. I think it will be a cool experience since most of us are playing the public tracks in and around Omaha and Players Club. Mostly mid caps and a few high handicaps, should be an interesting 45 hole weekend!
Have fun man. It’ll be worth it. U will have fun. 2024 u can do Wildhorse. 2025- Tatanka. 2026- Prairie Club…. Ha
Both Cunningham’s locations in Kearney are great for a mob of dudes. So is Thunderhead Brewing (upstairs). Mccues is a great beer bar. And the coffee shop across the street from McCues is as good as anything in Omaha.
Awarii gets too much flak because it’s so close to Wildhorse but it should be equally fun as a big trip. I would bet some mid to high caps would even prefer it. It is a bit tougher pushcart than Wildhorse because of the sand cart transitions.
OH NO! I just saw that pizza place “A Flippin’ Sweet” is permanently closed.
Bummer.
If anyone is free Wednesday night, I’m looking for someone to sub for my buddy and play in league with me in Blair. Note: you’ll be playing as a scratch, we’re not overly worried about points though.
Oh this is why you haven’t asked me yet /s
I’ve been looking to get 9 holes in later this week. Let me check with the boss at home ASAP if Wednesday works. I don’t mind playing as a scratch
Sounds perfect. Just let me know
Still open if anyone is free and wants to come out.
Played 18 at Field Club last night for the first time. Pretty fun track considering the small amount of land it’s on but holy shit you have to be on your toes. There are balls flying all over the place on almost every hole it seems like. Thought it was weird to hit over the roads until we got to (I think) 6 tee and hit our tee shots, then go over and play the par 3 7, then play your second shot on 6. Buddies behind almost smoked us on a blind tee shot, then saw a guy juke out a golf ball heading directly at him the next hole. Entertaining twilight round with a couple birdies!
Refuge after dark
Nice little feature on Ryan McCormick of the KFT detailing how he recreates KFT courses to exact scale on PGA Tour 2K with quite a bit of footage of his recreation of Indian Creek. I wonder if those designs are public/share-able?
Godspeed to my fellow sweaty boyz in the mid am. Woof.
Played with a gentleman in his early 50’s on Saturday. One of the last tee times. He walked it! One of the worst walking courses in Nebraska on the hottest day of the year.
Hello friends,
I was looking for a place to visit and play this weekend and saw an opening at Landman and reasonable flights to Omaha. Jumped on it, now looking to find a couple more places to play while I’m there. What do y’all recommend in your fine city (golf or otherwise)?
Muni: Benson
Nice: Indian Creek. Site of KFT event. Not an architectural gem necessarily but very well conditioned.
Question for the board: is Bent Tree in good condition this year? Would recommend if so.
If you search elsewhere you will see Quarry Oaks mentioned. Great spot, but closed for renovations this year.
Thanks man!
