Roll Call: Omaha/Lincoln

What parts of town will you be in?

If you’re trying not to venture too far away from downtown Omaha:

Breweries: Zipline has a taproom just north of you by the baseball stadium where the CWS is held as does Kros Strain, Brickway is solid and walkable too, then Vis Major would be a 5 minute drive.

BBQ: Already said above, but Omaha stinks when it comes to BBQ. Hartland BBQ is up in Benson about 10 minutes from downtown and is good, Tracks Lounge has some great wings (their buffalo is the best but their BBQ is solid too) and is also about 10 minutes.

Tacos: South Omaha has some of the best Mexican spots in the city. Abelardo’s (right by Vis Major brewing if you want to knock both off your list) is good, La Sierra is great, and Birriera El Chalan is also great. Check out Jacobo’s Grocery too if you’re near there.

Will +1 for Block 16, one of the best spots in the whole city, +1 for Oscar’s char-buffed wings and pizza.

I’ve got my car with me, so driving out is not really an issue. I’m staying at the Omaha Marriott Downtown…

Looks like Dodge Riverside is a 5 min drive from the hotel. Doesnt look like much but I’m ok with a $30 twilight round.

Was just notified of a networking dinner happening at Upstream Brewing on Monday night. Hasnt been mentioned but it’s a free dinner so I’m sure it’ll taste great!

Little Bohemia will have an archetype, tiny house (bar), Czech Inn (bar), Fizzys, and muchachos, beercade. That archetype has a brunch kitchen run by the sweet magnolia bakery people which is awesome.

Downtown: Block 16 is a must, Trinis has puffy shell tacos, ika ramen, shucks, via farina, zipline

Millwork commons by you will have a Kros Strain, archetype, sweet mags (cinnamon roll), and coneflower ice cream.

Salmex, Mexitli, Tijuana, churro spot, are the best tacos by you

Blackstone district will have the third archetype, stirnella (burger), mula (tacos), crescent moon, Nolis pizza, and you can’t skip eating/drinking at nite owl.

Benson has the OG ika ramen and cool speakeasy below, tacoco, Benson brewery, Barchen beer hall.

If you want to splurge look at Drover (open bar seating), yoshitomo, Koji, Boiler room (bar seating), committee chophouse

My fave places overall are archetype, B16, ika OG, via, trap room, nite owl, Fizzys, Kros strain, coneflower, tracks, churro spot, oleavers, el Basha, Sauced

No offense to anyone that lives west of 72nd street but you don’t get to have food opinions.

Yeah staying downtown, Bearded Brewer is a good 25-30 from where you are, I would recommend some of the other places that are closer to where you will be like Kros Strain or Zipline, big fan of Zipline.

Well this is certainly a take

Can’t appreciate this enough, thank you!

I’ll likely be walking to Millworks Commons one of the days, place looks great!

No offense but all of these puffy shell tacos look awful. I’m a simple man, just need a double corn tortilla, a protein, onion, cilantro and salsa. That makes a good taco.

I take it Dundee is outnumbered in the refuge. If I acknowledge there are at least 7 good places to eat past the dividing line can there be a truce?

For me it’s more that last time I was in Omaha I drove from 192nd and Q to downtown and it took like 25 minutes. Omaha isn’t some sprawling metropolis where someone living West of 72nd would find it prohibitively difficult to try restaurants in Benson or Blackstone or Downtown or whatever.

Best take I’ve heard all week. Bravo @MrHogan5 . I have no issues with anything on your list.

If you have place to add to your food recs (and I apologize if someone mentioned), but Dinker’s is less than five minutes from downtown and a real treat. Classic burgers in a fun/old school bar setting. Can get a little overwhelming at peak times. Block 16 is without a doubt higher-end and a better choice if you fancy yourself a foodie, but Dinker’s is my pick for a solid burger in Omaha.

*Dinker’s is cash only…kind of annoying. They do have an ATM if service fees aren’t scary to you.

Site One brewing is downtown, which I would recommend if you want to stay close to home base. Very nice stuff.

One of my favorite Mexican spots in town is called ā€œEl Ranchoā€ā€¦just south of downtown. Unreal salsas. It’s cozy and might look a little intimidating from the outside…I had never went until one of my students mentioned her family owns it and insisted I check it out.

Low key Dodge Riverside is a great value course. Easy walk (may be the flattest courses you’ll ever play) and good variety of tee shots and hole routings, and for $26-$36 walking it’s hard to complain.

It’s almost like people who live west of 72nd said many of the same establishments you dundee elitists tout…

Omaha visitor @jsauce and I have an 11:20 at Dodge Riverside tomorrow if anyone would like to join for a $24 walk. Let me know.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it for the customary blackjack run at Harrah’s after.

Group of 16 going out to Awarii Dunes in a couple weekends for our own Ryder Cup style event. Not one of us has played the course before but saw some hate on it after a quick search. Any specific reasoning for the hate? Also, any suggestions for bars or places to eat in Kearney? Few of us staying two nights but most will only be one night if there any fun bars we should go see in Kearney. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I’ve never played it…but I have heard a lot of great things about the course.

I do, however, feel like I remember the course getting off to a rough start with growing grass and getting everything to fill in…it could be that some of the negativity is just echoes of those complaints.

Kearney food! Good topic.

There is a pizza place called A Flippin’ Sweet Pizzeria that is to die for. Absolutely outstanding pies.

I REALLY like a Thai place really close to the University…Suwannee Thai Cuisine.

I’d also put in one more plug for the Indian place in the truck stop west of Kearney, Taste of India.

Coppermill Steakhouse is solid. There’s a super popular place called Cunningham’s Journal on the Lake…swamped when I was in Kearney in 2021 and didn’t go. There’s a burger place in that area with the new hotels that looks decent, but again, never been.

I coached Speech at the school where I teach and State is in Kearney…I’ve been out there three times to enjoy the food.

Some of the greens are pretty tricked out but you guys will enjoy it I think. If you don’t like tricked out greens maybe you won’t but I think it’s worth playing. Pretty fun and definitely a course you can figure out a bit a 2nd or 3rd time around it.

I would agree with @NebIrish there are parts that just feel a little tricked out for tricked out’s sake, not with any actual reasoning/sense? It isn’t a bad course at all, it’s just for me, if I’m going out that way, I’ll tag on another 45 minutes and go play Wild Horse instead.
