Regrettably missed R4. Allegedly open for 6/5 and confirmed interested.

Could do 6/5 most likely.

Yeah I would be interested. I could play if it was close to 1.

@OliveLoaf I’m playing the LaFortune par 3 with a couple of coworkers at 3:36 on Saturday. They’re still learning the game so we might not break any time records but you’re more than welcome to join up!

6/5 seems doable for me depending on member guest invite

Hello Oklahoma. I’m just checking in from FL hoping to tap your local knowledge for ideas/tips/advice for an upcoming 4-6 week golfing road trip I’m taking in September. As yet the route is just penciled in a subject to a lot of change. I am playing Prairie Dunes and Colonial (the reason this started) so will definitely be passing through your state at some point.

I’m looking for anything interesting, fun or unique on the golfing spectrum. Also anything that might be uniquely OK on the golf, food or meetup side of things.

Any ideas, suggestions welcomed and much appreciated at this early stage.

Thanks

Sure you’ll hear a lot of the same, but can’t go wrong with either college town and course (Norman - Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, Stillwater - Karsten Creek). Dornick is just across the Texas border so I’m sure you’ll be driving through there as well. OKC public courses > Tulsa public courses in my opinion. Jealous of the two tracks you already have on the schedule!

Some unique/interesting courses not directly off the interstate -
Cedar Creek in Broken Bow
Boiling Springs in Woodward
Roman Nose State Park Golf Course in Watonga

Yeah, assuming you’re coming down the I-35 corridor and how much time you have, the college courses (Karsten and Jimmie Austin) and the publics and privates along the I-35 corridor would provide provide a lot of good golf, not to mention there are a number of folks around that I’m sure would be up for a good hang. Of the privates that you can probably finagle your way onto if you tried/that I’m sure some folks here could help out with, would recommend looking into Oak Tree National (Pete Dye, solid tournament pedigree, a beast but fun), OKCGCC (Maxwell/Mackenzie, just finished a renovation), Twin Hills (my home course so I’m biased, but an early Maxwell, bonkers piece of property for a golden age course, solid routing with lots of potential, will be in the middle of a substantial clubhouse renovation in September but it shouldn’t affect the course), Dornick Hills (I don’t think it’ll be open post-Doakification in September, but @rdvern can provide more info).

Of the OKC publics, Lincoln (West Course) and Hefner (North Course) are solid - nothing crazy but are good munis. James E. Stewart is the GOAT track of goat tracks. Winter Creek in Blanchard (just south of OKC) is a fun wide open course. If you like to gamble, the courses at the Winstar casino are a lot of fun and right on the Texas border.

If you’ve got time for more than this, can provide some additional options and as @bbdixon said, if you want to go further east or west of I-35 there are some solid options as well.

Wow, thanks.

A lot to chew on and research over the next few weeks. A friend is helping me on possibly getting on Southern Hills (on my world top 100 list) but sounds like plenty of great stuff around to add. I will probably have a 7 day window between PD and Colonial so looking forward to OK.

The James E. Stewart just got penciled in. Looks like the perfect antidote to top 100 days.

If you play Southern and Colonial in the same stretch, I might die of envy. That’s sick.

If you don’t drop down from Prairie Dunes to Boiling Springs, that would be a miss for sure. PD to BS then straight down 412 to Southern Hills before dropping down to OKC. Keep us abreast of the agenda. Many would likely enjoy joining you on the public tracks and certainly about town.

Thanks - hoping to get some meetups along the way and as much varied and fun golf as possible so will definitely try to keep you all in my loop. I’m a 5.5 at golf but definitely scratch at buying beer.

Thanks for sharing your trip details, def keep us posted. As @Mish pointed out, there are plenty of sickos who like to join if possible - myself included. With regard to Dornick, our tentative closed time is June 1 - Nov. 15.

Edit: hearing rumblings of many properties in OK dealing with winter kill from our recent winter storms - especially those with Bermuda putting surfaces. Def check in with these places before hand, some will be partially closing to accommodate repair/resod activities.

The Oaks is laying ~7acres of sod - the collars around several greens are just gone right now.
LaFortune is actually in pretty good shape, and Canyons was in good shape last weekend, too, despite all of the rain. I haven’t made it out to any other courses this season to see what kind of shape they’re in, though.

Quite a few collars and tee boxes at TCC as well. I think they are waiting and hoping on some of the fairways most exposed to the north winds but probably needing sod for those, too. Sounds like Southern bought up all the sod around here to hurry and get ready for senior PGA, so not sure what timing is going to look like.

Can confirm. One of my good friend’s in-laws own the big one you can see from Memorial and he works there and he has been busy as can be. Plus everyone doing yard projects and the housing market going nuts.
Good time to be in the grass business.
