Roll Call: Oklahoma "The Supercell" - The Gusher @ Hillcrest 6/28

Giving Southern Hills a shot for the second time tomorrow, first since Gil worked his magic. Gonna have to try to convince the girlfriend to drive an hour south of OKC on Thursday on her birthday to play Dornick Hills on our way to AZ

It is top notch.
Stay away from the meandering hidden creeks and hit enough club to get pin high.

It’s a gorgeous drive!

I know I’m super late to this, but is the course on NOC Campus still there? That’s where I learned to play golf.

Curious who’s running this @reddirtgolf account. Does it happen to be a tall, social media/marketing-loving cowpoke that I fully expect to be doing the public address for Thunder games in the not so distant future?

This seems awfully specific.

It’s probably mentioned somewhere on here but can someone talk to me about the lafortune park par 3. Thinking about going there tomorrow evening

What do you need to know?

Not too much flair to it, but it’s fun! Holes range from 90 to 170yds with the vast majority falling around 110 to 130yds. Bermuda greens. It tends to attract a ton of casual / non-golfers (which is sick tbh) and gets easily backed up around peak hours.

Idk if they’re still doing tee times for it (call in) but historically it’s been walk-up only.

Thanks for the info, just looking to have a nice walk under the lights. I play a lighted golf course out in Indio, CA two nights a week during the winter in the best skins game goin (shout out MuniMadness on Instagram). Any attire accepted or we talking golf only? I’m a fan of the sweatpants, t shirt, sweatshirt move once the sun goes down. Thanks again!

Any attire is fine. That par 3 (and LaFortune generally) is designed to get non-golfers into the game. Wear whatever you want. And if you need clubs, rentals are free for the par 3.

You might call and make sure they still have the lights on on weeknights. At some point they start doing weekends only and then turn them off for good. With them being as busy as they have been, and having brand new lights that are more cost effective, they may be extending their hours.

You forgot handsome.

Went without saying, I thought.

I’m surprised as well. I get that it’s hard and a quality shot might not get rewarded every time, but that’s golf, right? For me, it’s interesting and makes you think about going for it or laying up. There aren’t a lot of holes on the OKC public golf circuit that give you options and make you think.

Long time NLU pod listener, first time refuge poster & Dornick Hills Member here,

So pumped y’all had a blast at the home of Maxwell. Additionally, I cant thank you enough for the rave review.
As you say, should you find yourself in DFW or OKC - we’re 90ish miles from both - Come See Us!! Highly recommend a double club special when you arrive.

To offer some breif insights/timelines on our proposed Doak restoration:

  • No contract is signed yet, but the tentative plan is to close the course May-Nov 2021.
  • The catalyst and bulk of the project is a modern irrigation system - which we desperately need.
  • To date, Doak has made one visit to the property back in June. He is set to return for second visit before attending the Houston Open at Memorial. I hear this visit is to mark trees for removal and further examine the property.
  • The DHCC board hosted a townhall style meeting in July in an attempt to quell speculation and rumors about the project, as well as get feedback from the membership. In this meeting, the highlights of Doaks “rough” proposal shared were: tree removal (500+ supposedly… sorry Mr. Player), complete restoration of all 18 greens, removing the pond which protects the 17th green, restoration of waste/native areas and resorting/leveling of tee boxes.
  • The board has formally accepted a gift from a local foundation which will cover the bulk of the tab. In addition, an anonymous donor has offered to match funds raised by the membership in $100K increments.

Considering creating a thread to track this project now…

Wonderful news. I’m trying hard to get out there to see it before the restoration. Hopefully soon.
