Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) and localized ice cream debates (Part 1)

As a Springfield transplant, Young’s is a big meh at best.

Young’s is over rated AF.

I pass a Bald Eagle nest every day on my way to work, too. I’ve counted 12 or more in that area a handful of times in the past, too

The old UDF stores in Lakewood and North Olmsted rebranded to “Uptown Mart” but I’m pretty sure they still sell UDF ice cream. UDF is elite and is my #2 in the state behind Mitchell’s. I grew up on their cookies and cream and UDF peach ice cream is excellent (July only).

Huge custard fan. Love East Coast. I grew up going to a little custard place and East Coast is the closest I’ve come to nostalgia in a cone.

Mitchell’s is…perfectly okay. But nothing spectacular in my book. They try to cram in too much flavor and it’s not my jam. Their pumpkin ice cream tasted like potpourri. East Coast’s pumpkin custard OTOH slaps

UDF Peanut Butter Milkshake is the best in Ohio for sure.

We going for outside Ohio ice cream opinions now? Salt and Straw in Portland, OR FTW. Best I’ve ever had anywhere.

I’ve never been to Mr. Hero. Not so much a take as it’s a fact some NEO natives tell me is weird.

@MrChickPhilA who do we talk to about getting a preview of the Choco Tacos?!?

Swensons potato teasers are the best side you can possibly get anywhere

I’m just glad no one is trying to prop up Jeni’s, proud of this group.

Only because they had the same name.

How are we doing all, Cincinnatian here, originally from NW Connecticut, been down here for 3 years now and fully engrossed in Graeters salted caramel. Apologize in advance for any pizza or deli snobbery!

There’s one around the corner from my house, I’ve never been. I’m not sure what to make of the place tbh.

A rather appropriate take.

@Creags am I correct that the founder of Jeni’s is known to be pretty insufferable on the socials? I know I saw like an anti-Jenis IG account or something once.

She’s been well documented on The Rooster. Mostly she posts these weird “head in the clouds”/GirlBoss type of ramblings while on some extravagant vacation that lasts for 2 months, at the same time the company is dealing with listeria, or reports of worker mistreatment, workers complaining of horrible pay, that type of stuff

I will say that I think Jeni’s is very good for what it is, I’d rarely be willing to spend the money for it, and they also made the best ice cream related thing I’ve ever had (a sun tea and cantaloupe sorbet back in the summer of like 2015 or 16)

Yeah The stories are out there but it’s the multiple instances of Listeria for me.

Was only going to pop in to shit on Jeni’s. Wildly overpriced and overrated. Graeter’s fuqs tho
