Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) and localized ice cream debates (Part 1)

What styles of food do you prefer? Plenty of good options downtown, OTR, and across the river in Covington!

A few favorites:

  • Italian: Sotto (might be able to get a bar seat as a solo midweek), Nicola’s, Pepp & Delores

  • Latin/Mexican: Mita’s, Frida, Bakersfield, Che

  • Americana: Rich’s Proper

  • Asian: Teak

Coffee wise, most will say Deeper Roots or Coffee Emporium.

I’ll try almost anything, so thanks for the suggestions.

You’re welcome. All of them are great in their own way. If you can get a seat at Sotto, it’s my vote for the best in Cincinnati.

What part of town are you staying?

Definitely Coffee Emporium for some Joe.

Couple more suggestions:

Salazar is a great farm to table by one of the best restauranteurs in the city.

Crown Republic is fantastic.

Of course, if you want an over the top steakhouse experience and you are on an expense account the Jeff Ruby downtown is exceptional. Very close to where you are staying.

One of our favorites is Abigail Street. Mediterranean influenced with small plates.

Cool bar: ghost baby or sundry&vice

Sotto is excellent as already suggested.

Have fun. It’s a great city.

3 spots for sleepy Sunday morning

Staying in downtown

Deeper Roots is a great option downtown - I personally recommend taking a stroll around Findlay Market and hitting up the DR shop that’s a part of it (the market itself is closed on Mondays, but the shop stays open).

If you can get outside the city, Wyoming Community Coffee and Proud Hound are both within a 20 minute drive of your hotel (idk what kind of plans you have, but aside from DR these are my two go-tos in the Cincy area).

If you want to be really close to the airport here are some public golf options:

Kentucky (25 minutes or less to the airport):
Kenton County Golf Courses (27 hole facility, decent but not great golf, affordable)

Boone Links (18 holes, good golf, affordable)

World of Golf (18 hole executive course, bare-bones experience in quality of turf and design, cheap)

Devou (18 holes, conditions can be rough at times but some cool views, OK value)

Twin Oaks (18 hole course, basic golf course - nothing memorable, cheap)

Normally, I would recommend Lassing Pointe but there are only 9 holes starting 9/18 due to a renovation.

Ohio: (again under 25 minutes from airport)
California (18 holes, good value, conditions are normally decent)

Reeve’s (18 holes, situated next to a private airport, private jets and single prop airplanes buzz the fairways - very cool, extremely flat, cheap)

If you want to drive a little longer (40 minutes or less from the airport), the Links at Rising Star (Indiana) and Legendary Run (Ohio) are good options.

Let me know if you have additional questions. One more thing, use Golf Now to book as some of these courses get even cheaper on a hot deal ($28 w/ cart for 18).

Hey guys, traveling into Cleveland this weekend to visit girlfriend’s family. Will be playing in an outing Saturday at Seneca but just found out I may have time to get a round in early Sunday morning. Looks like Sleepy Hollow is must see? Tee sheet looks full as of now, do they allow walk ons? Appreciate the help or if anyone has other recommendations let me know. Coming from Austin and originally from Cincinnati

What time?

7:40

2 of the 3 spots have been claimed

I’ll take the last

Putting this out there in case anyone wants to make the pilgrimage with me - I’ve got a 1:00p tee time at Diamond Springs on Friday the 22nd. Would love to have a few Refugees join me (potentially for an OATW match, too!). 3 spots available as of now. $45 to walk 18 ain’t bad…

Planning to stay up there or come back after?

Coming back, it’s just a day trip that I try to make once a year
