Hunter, fellow nester here from the Cleveland area. I live on the westside (Fairview park) of Cleveland and belong to the Mayfield/Sand Ridge club over on the east side. You get 2 clubs for the price of 1. both are great spots with a plethora of good players and guys always down for some fun. I believe there is an initiation now of about $5,000 to join, but the monthly dues (if you’re under 35) are dirt cheap compared to other clubs on either side of Cleveland (around $430/month for 2 courses!). Mayfield is a hilly/tight old style country club course, while Sandridge is a wide open resort-ish feeling course that is simply just a golf oasis (s/o the Faz). Mayfield is probably 25 min from downtown and Sandridge is about 40 min. both clubs offer a great caddy program but you can always take a cart or walk whenever also! Hopefully this is helpful, cheers!
Thanks for the input, both were totally booked up. Looks like as of now we will be at Players Club at Foxfire.
Oof
#shrinkthegame
After spending all day waiting in a line of groups being held up by league players, then being asked to quit with two holes to play because an outing was about to happen, #nukethegame is more like it
Decided to try and get a round in last minute today and ended up at pebble creek. The refuge completely undersold it. That place was comically bad in so many ways. You can tell by the awful layout and ridiculous cart path routing that they were gonna cram 18 holes onto that property no matter what. I’ve never played so many 90 degree doglegs in a row before. There is nothing fun about having to hit it 220 off of every tee and 150 in to the green. The few holes that weren’t 90 degree doglegs were idiotic to highest degree. I don’t know who came up with the idea to have a par 5 with a 250 yard forced carry off the tee to a 15 yard wide fairway slanted to kick everything into the woods and waist high grass 3 yards into the rough but they deserve nothing but misery. I can only imagine the 7th circle of hell is being forced to play this place on repeat in a foursome with the barstool guys. If this is the only place left to play on your summer Saturday I would highly recommend skipping it to stand in line at the dmv or putting your hands in a blender.
See the OATW Match Play thread for the match recap, but @Gobrownies09 and I played Ellsworth Meadows on Saturday afternoon. I’d been warned about pace of play there. The course was definitely packed, but we went around in a not completely unbearable 2:20 on the front. A wait here and there, but nothing that drove us crazy. We were paired with a delightful retired couple, Pat and Rita. Pat was a pretty good player, and Rita just dinked woods down the middle all day. And she pulled the trigger fast! Like, Mark Brower fast. A really enjoyable random pairing.
At the turn, the starter tells Pat and Rita that they were sending a twosome playing only nine holes off #10 between us and and group in front of us. Why, in the fuck…
This was really infuriating. We had a very pleasant front nine, then the back turned into just about 3 hours so we played the entire round in about 5:25. So a big fuck you to that starter. Ellsworth is a fantastic course with really great greens. But, operations like that make me not want to go back any time soon, unless I’m playing super early.
Let me guess, Saturday morning at Sycamore Springs?
Yep
With @blackhammer claiming a spot on 9/2 the 7:20 and 7:30 slots are full at manakiki. I also have the 7:40 tee time available with no spots claimed yet if anyone wants it. Will wait a few days until I cancel and give it back to the course.
Anybody have a spot available for Saturday the 26th?
Alright, which one of you sickos wants to own up to this along Rt 4? (Excuse the lazy Google maps pics. Looked great while driving by)
Drove by a gathering there that looked like a hell of a time.
Scouting out a possible Friday round as an out of towner… Is York Golf Club any good, where should I be playing on the Northwest side of Columbus?
(Coming from Ft Wayne)
We have to have someone who is part of OATW that could get you on OSU.
OSU is great. I speak only of the Scarlet course, but that was an enjoyable round. I posted when I played it that I enjoyed it more than Scioto. That still remains true.
I used to remember the name of the people that lived there but I cannot recall it for the life of me right now. They used to hold a hole in one contest for a large cash prize but that’s been +15(?) years ago. The tee box was right next to the road, maybe 160 yards or so.
York is fun, first seven holes are fairly benign, then from 8 on it’s a blast. It’s also private as an FYI, you may be able to give them a call but I’m not sure if they’d be open to it. Public in NW Columbus I would probably point you towards Mill Creek or Darby Creek.
Uh, yeah… that’d be sick. Just tell me who to send the feet pics to.
