Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) and localized ice cream debates (Part 1)

I did the tasting at Angels Envy and it was really good. The person who lead ours was top notch.

Anyone here got a connection to play Scioto in Columbus? The course and green complexes look fantastic. I’d love to check it out this summer, but it looks to be private.

Outside of The Golf Club, that’s the toughest course to get on in our state. As I understand it.

“looks to be private” might be the biggest understatement in this thread’s history

I just realized a few months ago that I went to college and worked with the golf pro. Still don’t think I’ll ever have a shot to play.

Double Eagle and Pepper Pike maybe? But all are definitely next-level exclusive.

Looking at Google maps, TGC looks like it has parking for all of 35 cars lol

Shit, I didn’t know. Place looks pretty amazing though.

TGC is my ultimate white whale. More like the white unicorn, since I consider white whales something that you theoretically could catch. It’s a Dye, in Ohio, where we don’t have very many. And it’s an OLD Dye. Sucks so hard knowing I’ll never see it.

That tracks given what I’ve heard about the place, very limited membership, not a ton of play, crazy restrictive guest policies.

Might be the best overall golf experience in this midwest but it’s kept hush hush on purpose… prob 150ish members with a healthy amount living outside of Ohio. Men only. Used to be pretty remote/isolated and I know they’re less than thrilled with all growth that’s occurred and on the horizon

Yeah I’ve definitely got opinions related to that I’ll just keep in the pocket, but it’s always wild to me how people who claim to love golf want to make sure as few people as possible even get to lay eyes on one of the best courses in the country by one of the best course designers of all time, let alone get to play it

If you go to their website, the only info on the front page is a directions link that opens your GPS, a member login portal, and the rules for guests. The latter item is funny because it says you can’t talk on your phone anywhere on the grounds except in your car or “phone booths” in the clubhouse.

Wasn’t there a Nest member that offered to host there, at one point? Or maybe I’m thinking about the Ohio State courses.

Wanted to look up who own TGC now, and can’t find that anywhere (I had initially assumed Wexner due to where it’s at and a pristine property being open 24/7/365 with only 150 members, but forgot he owns NACC), but I did find these two bits of trivia inside all the talk of the incredible Dye architecture

The Jones family still owns TGC as far as I know
