Thank you for all the help with courses in NE Ohio. I think the current plan is to play Manakiki on Friday, Sleepy Hollow on Saturday and Whispering Woods on the way home Sunday. Potentially a second round on Saturday somewhere but that is currently up in the air.
Any recommendations for restaurants or breweries in the area we should hit up? Thank you again
I am of the opinion that platform has the best beer. Always interesting stuff. But they can be lacking for food if you’re looking for a bite to eat. Great Lakes is our OG brewery. They have good beer, nothing too interesting. They just play the hits. They do have good food. Same goes for Market Garden.
Please do not tell people to go to platform, Joe. Good lord. Bad beer, owned by the evil empire of beer, and just laid off a bunch of workers.
Noble Beast is the spot for food and beers (started by an original Platform owner, actually, and the real talent behind their beer in the early days). Masthead is a good second choice for both food and beer, but the main spot if you’re into hazies. GLBC is never a bad idea. I’ve also really enjoyed the beers I’ve had from Bookhouse Brewing
They had pretty recently opened a taproom in Columbus when they sold out to ABI. That place was such a nightmare that the entire staff walked out one day, and the place never reopened
Jesus. Just read about that. Has it not reopened? Also, the article from today’s Cleveland Scene says they were told via Slack not to come in. Man, I really do feel bad telling people to go there.
In much more positive CLE news today: Triston.Fucking.McKenzie.
As far as I know it never reopened. I went there once, on a Saturday afternoon. Huge ugly warehouse space in more industrial area just off downtown. Like 6 people inside and the vibe was definitely not great. The owners took advantage of “ticker/Untappd culture” better than maybe any brewery during that boom, and cashed out the perfect time
Yeah within 10 minutes of there, you’ve got wolfs ridge, hoof, seventh son, antiques on High, CBC, Sideswipe, and Jackie O’s pretty soon. Choosing platform over any of them would be insane.
Also, I feel like most people don’t know that it started as a place that was going to be half production brewery, half place for talented home brewers to come get a shot to brew on a pro system, to help train folks and uplift more craft breweries through better talent. Which makes it all the more insane that they eventually sold out to InBev. When they decided to get away from that is when I think Shaun left, and eventually started Noble Beast
