Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) and localized ice cream debates (Part 1)

Since we’re going there: I’ve not tried anything that far out, but I’m willing to. Such is my devotion to good pizza. My only NEOH pizza takes are that Edisons is outstanding, and Angelos is fine but a little overrated.

FInally someone else is on my side with Angelos.

Mark me down for Angelo’s being overrated. Mama Santa’s is my go to

Angelo’s is great, but it’s not on Edison’s level. Edison’s is the heavyweight champ in NEO in this pudgy dude’s opinion.

Ohio Pie is underrated because it’s Brunswick, and it’s a little bombastic, but they’re so good. Carmino’s on the Old Brooklyn/Parma border is criminally underrated, too. And, from back at my KSU days, Euro Gyro’s pizza, gyros, etc. are phenomenal. If I’m in Kent and it’s night time, that’s where I’m eating.

Re: Dayton pizza from my 4 years down there…

Marion’s is good but pricey. Cassano’s - is terrible. I don’t remember too many of the mega local spots (I lived in Kettering near the intersection of Dorothy and Far Hills) but there were some serviceable ones. Living in Kettering, it was hard not to eat at Mama Disalvo’s once a week lol

I’ve been in Kettering for three years now and have yet to eat at DiSalvo’s.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. Incredible family-style Italian food with great service. It gets packed on the weekend evenings, so you’ll need a reservation, but I really loved it and ate there regularly. Great place. The deli next door is bad ass during the day time. Soups. Sandwiches. Etc. In the summers when I didn’t have school, I’d stop in for lunch. It’s a family place and you truly get that vibe at the deli, whereas the restaurant is a little buttoned up.

I also used to eat at El Toro over there off 275 all the time. Cheap, good portions, and they always had soccer (football) on TV. I’d go on a Saturday, eat a lunch/dinner, have a few, and hang out with the dudes that worked there. We talked about going to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa together but I moved away - they probably went.

I also lived within walking distance of Arrow Wine & Sprits, which was convenient as hell lol. The Dorothy Lane Market was close, too.

I know I’ve heard many, many good things about DiSalvo’s, just haven’t had the time or had it hit me mentally that I needed to get over there at the right time. We try not to eat out much which definitely doesn’t help. When you only eat out at a big restaurant like twice a month your options are limited.

We used to hit up the El Toro on Dorothy and Dixie for take out all the time but have found Chiapas down on Alex Bell to be better quality and more friendly all around.

Last time I was up in Cleveland I ordered Mama Santas from Little Italy and I thought it was subpar. Maybe I just caught them on an off day.

That’s a miss by you

Non-pizza related…

Does everyone in the Roost see the OATW thread. I’d really like to see that thread take off for Roost stuff and would like to post in there more for merch and event things.

I can see it. Weather is warming up. Roost will be popping off soon

Just my two cents, but it can be a lot to keep track of with the OATW, Roll Call and individual event threads all going at the same time in different places.

I think consolidating merch and events into the OATW thread like you said makes a lot of sense.

The event “stuff” I want to keep public facing so anyone can sign up. But I agree with your comments 100%

Ohio pie Co is really good. We will drive 30+ minutes each way to get it.

Blacklick Woods in Columbus is open year round. First come, first serve. Cannot attest to conditties tho, would assume it’s going to be a soupy mess after all the melt followed by rain today.

Blacklick is also free greens fees through the month of February.

I will tell you based on the rain we’ve gotten up here today you might want to pack a snorkel for Sunday’s round.
