Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) and localized ice cream debates (Part 1)

I think that’s it. Better draft.

1.) Braxton is probably my favorite brewery but Madtree PSA or Taft’s Gavel Banger are my favorite beers.

2.) No interest in the bengals but my girlfriends Dad has had season tickets for 38 years and is not a fan.

3.) Large Regular 3 Way

What about favorite Cincinnati recreation golf course? Gotta be Avon for me.

Avon, then an ocean, then Glenview, then an ocean of distance between the rest.

The Royal Airforce Base at Reeves is the best course in Cincy. Hands down.

Not a chance. Avon 10/10 times.

I would be remiss if I did not rep the Reeves par 3 course, of course. The absolute best for a dawn patrol 50 minute 9.

California is as much of a home course as I have but I don’t particularly love it.

Glenview is actually pretty nice. Good condition, decent architecture.

Neumann has one awesome nine (red, I think) that’s the CRC equivalent of Bandon Trails.

I love the putting greens / practice facility at Little Miami and Sharon Woods (though I acknowledge that they’re County courses…).

I am a big fan of Reeves for what it is. Long par 3’s on the back nine, a couple of decent par 5’s. The front is a decent nine. For a $15-20 walk and carry muni, it has some perfectly straight but challenging holes. Small greens still demand accuracy and thought. If they would sneak the heather in just a little bit more, I would love it but I know the more heather there is the slower the play gets. I’ll vote for quicker pace over extra heather.

Seconded. I’m in on Reeves for what it is. I go with the wife or kids, everyone has fun, and no one loses balls.

And the early AM par 3 needs to happen again this year.

Hey I purchased a lesson package from Larry it went awesome. I was working/striking the ball better than ever after like 15 minutes. He wanted to know where i found out about him and told him some guy on a blog sent me. I showed him your username and he started laughing…how long have you taken lessons from him?

I’ve been seeing him for two or three years and he has been coaching my FIL for decades. He’s a great dude.

Where is Larry?

Tri county golf ranch in Springdale. Highly recommend him.

That’s great. It’s not on my regular range rotation but a good reminder that there are a lot of teachers out there. I did a little digging and absolutely remember the name Larry King, he’s been at it for a long time in Cincinnati.

Had the boys from our street out at Reeves Par 3 the other day. It was beautiful chaos. 80% chase me-chase me and “jump out of the golf cart” game and tag, 20% golf. #Golf with your kids thread.

Its that time of winter, at least in northern Ohio, where we can’t really hit outdoors. The Golf Dome in Chagrin used to be a sanctuary, but apparently they had a collapse and won’t be fixed for months. So they are out for this winter. Does anyone know of any other cost effective places (not a simulator) to hit balls fully indoors somewhere around Lake Erie?

Stonebrook driving range in Middleburg Heights has outdoor bays with a few heated ones. When I tried to go there last weekend the power was out (for a couple blocks, not just Stonebrook) so I wasn’t able to go since the dispenser is automated

I think Windmill golf center in the Macedonia area also has outdoor bays (and they do great club building work if you ever need that)

Love this - it’s so funny that I can’t get over calling it Lunken. My friends and I still call it, “meet down at Lunken?” Terrific photos. Good share.

@Birdsong - are you in the Cincy Whatsapp thread? That’s where we got these (edit: morning rounds at RP3) organized last summer. The more the merrier!

(Though, speaking of, do we want to fire Facebook and switch to something else? Seems like a minor PIA but I’m all for impacting what little I can in the world…)

Thoroughly miss the golf dome’s in the WNY area. If you find yourself out that way there’s nice ones in both Clarence and Tonawanda. The Tonawanda even has a small sand area you can hit out of.
