Is there a write-up anywhere for how the Roost stuff works, points, events, etc?
Joined a bit late this year I think but would like to play more amateur tournaments next year and want to get more competitive rounds under my belt so this might be a good place to start.
Think weāre talking the Ohio Mid Am. GHIN requirement is a 6.4 so not crazy low. I know nothing about Coldstream but looks in general like itās playing toughāscores not too low. But Iād agree that shooting 100 makes it hard to believe someone is a legit 6.4 or better.
Also, this isnāt true for every solid playing mid-am, but 6,900 seems so long. So Iām surprised a guy shot 100 but many, many scores in the 80ās wouldnāt be too surprising.
Havent played it but Coldstream is likely the toughest course in Cincy. Ive seen my fair share of 5 caps shoot low 90s from shorter tees so 100 from the tips in a tournament setting doesnt seem too crazy on a really bad day.
US Open local qualifying requires you to be scratch and there were still 5/6 guys who went out and shot 20 over this year which seems more egregious than a 5 shooting 100.
I donāt know shit about the course, and Iām not an expert like a lot of yāall when it comes to the game of golf. But I believe thereās quite a few low cappers that have that handicap because they play the same course all the time and have trouble outside of those courses. Me, @Conley76, @PlumbBobMillionaire, and @wreckhockey were talking about this after are round in Canada. Iām a high enough handicap that I can fuck up on a par three course. But that could be part of it.
Can confirm, Coldstream is an absolute beast of a golf course. Iāve played it in a couple of USGA qualifiers, one being the US Open local a couple of years ago. Was +4 through 13 holes and shot 89.
Any recommendations about where to play in the Cincinnati Loveland area? Iāve played hickory woods before, but wondering if thereās anywhere I should hit ove LDW when I go visit my in-laws.
Thanks
Absolutely. Those are the 3 best public courses in Cincy IMO. Blue Ash is the best value at like $60, Stonelick is arguably a little better (or at least more unique) but is closer to $100.
If Stonelick was in similar condition to what it was a few years ago, itād give Blue Ash a lot stronger run for its money.
The last few times me and/or friends have played, itās been in a lot rougher shape than youād expect given the price.
Elks Run is in nicer condition than Stonelick and a fun layout, while slotting between Blue Ash and Stonelick price wise at full rate.
Amongst them, Iād go Blue Ash > Elks > Stonelick > Hickory, although I have a soft spot for Hickory as itās the course I grew up on and have played the most.
I echo @Creags here, nothing wrong with Worthington Hills but not very memorable either. Great clubhouse and facilities and it is tucked back into a nice little neighborhood but there are some holes that donāt feel like they belong.
