I cannot offer any recommendations from me but congrats on becoming a parent!! That’s awesome!
take pictures and stop on the way down. I’m a couple 100 miles north but same mnt range and the leaves are turning right now. Best time of year to make the drive.
Highlands is great. Be sure to get some Kilwins Ice Cream and/or Fudge while you’re poking around downtown. Not sure where the leaf season is at there, but there are some easy walkable downtown if that’s still possible for her.
Thinking about heading up to Asheville this weekend to visit my parents. Shot in the dark here, but any tee times with open slots available Saturday around town?
I’m going to be in the blowing rock area during Thanksgiving. Is there even a reason to have golf on my mind to try and get a round in that time of year? I kind of assume any courses will be closed
Morganton is 45 mins south of Blowing Rock. There are a number of Mimosa Hills members that are on the refuge. It’s a great 1929 Ross and definitely worth the drive.
I would be happy to host. DM me (sooner than later, I am not renewing my nest membership here which expires in 2 weeks)
Last minute, but two of us down from DC have 815 at Mid Pines tomorrow morning on a deal, and if anyone can make it we have two spots for $125 each. We are happy to take more or two players. DM if interested.
hello friends. reaching out from cold snowy minnesota. our season ended very abruptly and my mentals are in shambles with no real (read: not sim) golf for the foreseeable future.
My lady is from Eastern NC (odds are we fly into raleigh and drive east), and has asked that we visit soon. My assumption is that there is golf in January in parts of NC? any particular areas to target for a stay and play? anything else i should know? (not at all worried about adverse conditions, cold, wind) just need an open course with grass. cheers!
Not sure exactly where you’re looking to travel. East of Raleigh is a pretty substantial area in terms of size. Regardless, you won’t have difficulty finding quality golf or decent weather east of Raleigh in January. The median daytime high in the Greenville area is around 58* at that time of year.
I’ll echo @Sixcat here. January is notorious for having random 65*+ days thrown in at any given moment. Every course will stay open.
If you’re staying in the Raleigh area, I’d recommend (in order):
Lonnie Poole (NC State’s course)
River Ridge
Pine Hollow
Lochmere
If you fly to Raleigh and head down to Wilmington (roughly 2 hour drive), you should absolutely hit up the Wilmington Muni.
Second the Wilmington muni rec
appreciate the recommendations gents!
glad its not going to be any trouble finding a place to play. fly into Raleigh, head toward the coast. I’d like to stay in Wilmington this time around. (she grew up in Morehead city, so she prefers crystal coast)
Shoutout to Arrive in Wilmington if you’re looking for a place to stay. Walkable to some great restaurants and the riverfront. Great coffee shop next door too. Wife and I spent her birthday there two years ago and still think about how chill of a place it was.
Hello everyone! Getting the good ol’ intro post out of the way – long time NLU consumer, first time poster. Have been in the Raleigh area for 4 years now after a decade in Jacksonville, FL – looking forward to getting involved with First Flight in 2026!
That is awesome @Spaulding!! Welcome to NC nonetheless…First Flight will be happy to have you. Hope to tee it up soon…I am a little over an hour east of you in Duplin County. Hope to tee it up at some point.

You’ve found your tribe. Welcome sir.
Checking in from Wilmington. 10hcp player weekly at the Muni since I moved to Wilmington just over 5 years ago when I got into golf to get outside during the pandemic and lose weight. I’m still doing both. Big time fan of NLU and Chasing Scratch.
Tee off at 11 on Sat. Introduce yourself if you happen to be coming out.
Hi, I’ve lived in Wilmington 30 years. Played the muni many many many times but not often lately….is the 11 tee time full?
We’ve got a spot for you. It’s under Ken
