Welcome to the best city in the triad!
Welcome @Finchy! You are in the right place! So much good golf around youā¦I live in the opposite kind of areaā¦No public golf outside of one local club lol. Father of 3 boys myself and I donāt get to golf much either. The chat is best spot as others have stated to engage.
Alright North Carolina Brethren. Lake Effect Rooster here looking to make a few stops in NC. Iām currently playing at Tobacco Road 6/30 with the Golferās Journal group.
Pinehurst is completely booked up the surrounding days. What are some of your recs for must see courses in the greater RDU area?
Mid Pines, Pine Needles, and Southern Pines near Pinehurst. All great courses, but Mid Pines is my favorite. Mid South is also a great course in the area, but Iād rate it below the other 3 listed.
Iād recommend these over anything in the Raleigh area, but if you are itching to play in Raleigh, Lonnie Poole (NCSUās course), Finley (UNCās course), or Duke
Tot Hill should be on your list if youāre willing to cover some ground. Easy to get to Asheboro from RDU via US 64.
Knightās Play is not one to sleep on (thatās an intentional and hilarious night golf pun for this legit 27-hole par 3 course with stadium lighting). Perfect place to keep the party going after TR in Apex on your way back to Raleigh.
I thought I would let you all know that sign-ups for the @PalmettoGolfSociety Roost Major are live and open to all North Carolinians!
If you have questions at all, lmk!
Hey All. Iāll be travelling to Winston-Salem for work this upcoming October (staying downtown.) Looking for public course recs to tie into the trip for potentially a twilight round on Monday 10/13 and a morning round Tuesday 10/14. Could potentially do a twilight Friday/Morning Saturday on 17th/18th instead. Definitely up to play with guis and gals if anyone is around as well. Thanks!
Reynolds Park (The Peopleās Old Town)
Tanglewood Champions Course
Thereās a ton in the immediate area too.
Iām a member at Maple Chase and could have you out there Saturday morning. Depending on work I maybe could sneak out for a round Tuesday morning. Be in touch as it gets closer!
Resident WSer. I concur with @JScore. Happy to play when youāre in town.
Awesome thanks!
Figured Iād share here just in case, I have 3 guest spots open at Cardinal in Greensboro on Sunday morning, 8:20am. Greens were punched beginning of March, but they were pretty smooth last weekend. Guest rate is $50 if anyone wants in. Iāll be releasing the time this evening if no takers and just lock in for the Masters instead.
Looking for some help here.
Iām heading up to Raleigh from Myrtle Beach for the Pearl Jam show on May 13th. Have the 13th and 14th off from work.
- Hotel recs? (Could be around the arena or away from town on the way towards golf)
- Golf recs?
- Restaurants or bars to check out before or after the show or breakfast the morning after?
My initial thoughts were trying to find a hotel towards Pinehurst area and find somewhere to play Wednesday late morning but open to any and all suggestions. Donāt know anything about the Raleigh area.
All three university courses are worth a play.
-Lonnie Poole in Raleigh on campus
-UNC Finley
-Washington Duke.
If you get outside of Raleigh it never hurts to see if Tobacco Road or Tot Hill Farm have a single space available. Both easy drives from Raleigh.
Had no idea it was that close to Raleigh. Had it in my head that it was in Virginia for some reason. I think thatās the play. $100 cheaper than Pinehurst area courses I want to play and I love me some Strantz.
In the very small downtown Asheboro area, there is a Mexican spot that was pretty good last time I was there. Cantina Taco Loco. If youāre into Chicago/Detroit tavern style pizza (thin cracker crust), Sir Pizza is a spot I grew up going to when visiting my family that lived there.
Also closer to the Lenovo center in is a spot called Chubbyās Tacos. Best and biggest burritos you can find in Raleigh. Cured many a hangover in college!
I agree with @bcoxrcm on Finley. I played there before the Donnybrook and absolutely fell in love with the place. DLIII knocked the renovation out of the park and itās a course I would happily play everyday! I believe @Southpaw72 even said it was a top 3 course in America, but not in the top 3 of North Carolina.
TC logic has broken contain!
This is 100% accurate. Amazing property
Thank you all for the suggestions. Sounds like driving up early and playing Finley on Tuesday and Tot Hill on Wednesday might be the play.
Tot Hill is always the answer.
