Hey All, wanted to throw this our here for the NC folks. I’m heading to Pinehurst for some work meetings from March 9th - 11th and am getting some golf in while I’m there. I have a tee time booked at Tobacco Road the morning of Wednesday the 9th at 10:30 and am playing by myself so there are three open spots if anyone would like to join.

What club is this? PM please

Hey all NC folks. I’ll be driving from Charlotte over to oak island probably Wed afternoon/evening. I can stop and spend the night and play Thursday during the day. If anyone is on the route and are playing. Or if there is anywhere I need to stop at and play? If not I’ll princely hit up pinehurst for the day. Let me know.

Hey all, coming in from IL and can play 1 round around Wilmington, NC. Can you advise me on a couple of the better courses that are open to the public?

Wilmington Muni and this is the final answer and I doubt anyone will even differ with me on it

What makes it the final answer? Very Intrigued.

Best public course in the area, a classic Ross. There’s not a ton of great public options in Wilmington*, and the muni is a great public option.

*there’s a couple guys on here that can call out the decent ones, think there are some posts upthread about it

It’s just the clear and obvious best choice.

Yeah, around there its slim pickings on publics and this one is an outstanding Ross. If there was a poll I’m taking over 80% are taking the muni

I had someone say something about Magnolia Greens. Do you know anything about that?

The answer is undoubtedly Wilmington Municipal. It’s a great course, classic Ross design, great setting, in the middle of town, and the green fee is supremely affordable. If you play any of the other public options they will not be in as good of shape, they will cost more, be out of town proper , and aren’t as good

never been there sorry

FWIW I’m going to Wilmington for an OAR/Dispatch show in sept and planning to play at the muni myself and 1 get one round, like you.

Played there before and it was decent…Mainly because of the golf boards and not the course lol. It is not even in the same conversation with the Muni in my opinion. That is really it outside of Beau Rivage which again is not on the same level imo.

Local ILM’er here… Muni is a must play, so so good.

The public golf in around Wilmington honestly sucks due to most of the courses closing over the last few years.

Another option is Castle Bay in Hampstead, just north of Wilmington.

Mag Greens is very meh, same with Beau.

When will you be down? Myself and a few of the others may be able to join you.

used to live in Wilmington. the Muni is the shit, i played it a bunch before the influx of cash and it was still fun. now it’s fun and in fantastic shape. Mangolia Greens is okay, Castle Bay (just north of Wilmington) is also okay, but I haven’t been to either in a few years so they could have changed for better or worse. if you have multiple days to play I’d recommend playing the Muni and then driving south to play Rivers Edge in Shallote. Arnie course on a sick property

The greens out there are piss poor now. Fun layout is cool but putting on shag carpets with divots is not

at Rivers Edge?? that sucks to hear

I’ve played it 20ish times a year for the last few years. They are never good but now they are truly atrocious
