just curious, but from what point on 81 or 77 is Pinehurst an hour away?
The part where you cross over the east/west mountain time continueum and morph over to 220 south hyperdrive (does mike play golf?)
I was thinking the same thing. The closest I-77 gets to Pinehurst is about 2 hrs, maybe just under.
If I was heading from Columbia to Virginia Beach and had a few days I would take US-1. First stop would be Cheraw State Park Golf Course and then spend the night in Pinehurst. Play Mid Pines and Pine Needles the next day. Spend another night. Get back up and head up US-1 to Tobacco Road before heading out to VB.
An hour is a bit of a stretch but itâs worth the tip if you have the time, wouldnât you say?
The closest youâll get is CLT and itâs at least 2+ hrs from there and out of the way of COLA. If youâre doing Leesburg to pinehurst to cola 95 is the route
And you can hit New Kent (Strantz) between richmond and williamsburg
dont get me wrong, golf in pinehurst is awesomeâŚbut im not sure im driving 4 hours out of the way for it
the route needs to be leesburg, VA beach, then hit pinehurst on the way to COLA
From I-77 in Mount Airy, take I-74 straight to route 211.
I agree, if the destinations are Leesburg, VA Beach and Columbia in that order. It was my understanding from the original post, he was going to be traveling from Leesburg to Columbia then back to VA Beach. Leesburg to Columbia, via I-95 is significantly longer than I-81 - I-77.
well if hes travelling from Leesburg to COLA then to VA Beach, he needs to hit Pinehurst on the way back north to VA Beach
either way, yes hit pinehurst, but do it on the part of the trip between COLA and VA Beach
and stop in Roanoke and play with me on the way to SC
Might as well do 29 if youâre going to hop over to greensboro and down. The 81-77 benefits are almost purely for CLT and COLA ease
Agreed that makes more sense but it wasnât the parameters given by the original question.
I-74 doesnât go to Greensboro. It goes through Winston, High Point and Asheboro.
you can def take 29 to 460 and head south to either RDU or cut around the lake and go to GSO
ok youâve won the minutia of this conversation and nit picking. We surrender
sure it wasâŚsee below
this is the stretch of the trip that should be involving pinehurst
not the stretch going from Leesburg to COLA and driving 4+ hours out of the way roundtrip to get to pinehurst
as I start singing movin right along
thats how i felt heading down to Monroe earlier this yearâŚ
Not even the best in OBX. Not to shit on The Pointe, itâs a fun course, but câmon
oh yeah, 100% agree its not close to the best in the OBX
the proximity to the grave digger shop and a winery though made it a lovely stop for a quick 9 with the ole lady though
the ladies room at the grave digger shop is very clean and enjoyable fwiw
