Tot Hill is awesome. It’s worth the drive for sure.
One more vote for Tot Hill - really cool course, even though the last few holes feel like a huge letdown.
Played Chapel Ridge last weekend and liked it a lot. The price was great as well.
The Preserve is a little too gimmicky. Only reason I would go back is if I had a money match with a guy a lot longer than me. Ton of holes that take driver out of your hand. There is no reasonable risk/reward on the course.
My first 4 rounds have been UNC, Duke, Preserve, Chapel Ridge. Thinking about playing Mill Creek next which is about 30 minutes from Chapel Hill. So far I have loved Duke and really like Chapel Ridge given it’s non twilight price.
My overall thoughts on the area are y’all got some sharp-ass doglegs. I have never played such severe doglegs but nearly every course I have played as 1 or 2 like 90 degree turn holes.
Yeah we played mill creek when he was in town last year and absolutely loved it. One of my more favorite courses in the area
@country35 Sounds like chapel ridge brother
If you go a little further west past Mebane, stoney creek in whitsett is a worth visiting as well. They’ve got some great greens. Both mill creek and stoney creek are up there for me
I like dog legs actually and forced lay ups since Im much shorter too the tee as compared to @Fore20
Good to know about Chapel Ridge
You won’t have any trouble getting on Mimosa. Just call them. Fantastic club in a depressed community. As good a member course as there is.
Hey y’all- New to the board… I live down in Pinehurst, but did college in Chapel Hill. Lots of great courses all over the Tar Heel State. Look forward to talking with everyone!
Anyone heading out to the US Am this weekend?
What are your favorite Pinehurst area courses? I’ve played a few, I like Southern Pines and Hyland for the price point. #2 and Pine Needles are both awesome, but a lot more than SP and Hyland.
Just curious for a locals perspective
Planning on heading that way for the Saturday matchups.
The recent reviews on golf advisor are less than stellar. Their bent grass greens apparel to be in not so great shape
I played Mill Creek in Mebane last week in the NC SR four ball and the course is in great shape and a fine layout.
Talking about Chapel Ridge? Bent grass + good amount of play = some bad areas but overall I think it’s fine. Putts rolled true. One green had a mower get a little too low.
Yeah chapel ridge. The recent ones are pretty bad in comparison to the others this year.
Bent grass greens can stress and turn in a hurry, especially this time of the year. The last four or so reviews were from 8/10 to now and all say how bad the greens were.
#2 & #4 are on a different level but you pay (dearly) for what you get.
Outside of the resort I’d say Mid Pines, Pine Needles and Dormie Club. Dormie is going private in 2020 so get on while you can.
Also - if you’re playing at any of the Pinehurst resort courses go ahead and drop the extra $50 to play the Cradle.
Is that confirmed for dormie?
Dormie is going private as part of the Dormie Network.
The untapped jewel of the Sandhills is Southern Pines Country Club. It’s a virtually unchanged Donald Ross course that has belonged to the Elk’s Club. That’s my best “insider” tip. The other courses are all a lot of fun and there are various ways to get on the private courses like CCNC and Forest Creek if you pay attention to charity tournaments throughout the year.
