I did not get in
I thought they werenāt picking until tomorrow, dang. Guess I didnāt get in.
Ya canāt win em all, Dave-o
way to crush everyones dreams on a friday eve
Hey look man, aim your arrows at Big Golf Media. TGJ are the fascists, not I. But donāt go killing them before the 9th for Godās sake.
I have not heard anything so Iām guessing a no go for me. Guess Iāll have to spend the afternoon watching the final round of the PGA Championship
Has anyone played here? Thereās a NC Mid-Am qualifier here that I was thinking of playing in and just wanted to see if anyone had any insight into the course
Canāt help on Coharie, Iām going to try my luck at the one they have at Deercroft. I play that course time to time, not sure Iāll play well against the field but gonna give it a shot at a course I am comfortable with.
Thats the other one Im looking at. Have played a ton down in the PH area, but havent played Deercroft. Whats it like?
A friend of mine is going to enter the Wyndham Championship pre-Q at Bermuda Run CC - does anyone play there regularly that would be able to share some knowledge? Iām going to caddy for him and heāll get one practice round ahead of time, but Iām trying to not go in totally blind. The website and Google Earth can only help so much.
Iāll send you a DM too.
But briefly for others who may be interested, its got some tight holes with trees, not terribly long course, puts hills in play more than some other sandhills courses, greens arenāt too crazy with slopes but not huge greens on most holes either.
Its gettable, I play off about a 6, so as I said, Iāll probably get lapped but I want to start testing myself to get the game better.
yup, there are a couple bermuda run members on here
@Very.chipper can help
Accurate, let me know if you want my thoughts @Shank-Ri-La. @cltgamecock was a member at the other club Corp property in Charlotte and can provide additional context on club Corp.
@Hitchings21 is correct. I actually left Piper Glen back at the end of October for a few reasons, one of the primary reasons being the crowds caused by ClubCorp constantly driving new members through the door. When I joined in 2017, I believe there were about 700 golf members but it didnāt feel that crowded. When I left, I believe there were upwards of 850 or so and you could certainly feel it.
Everyoneās experience is different and different things are important for different people but Iāll list out what I liked and didnāt like below.
What I liked:
- Course was usually in good shape, especially the greens.
- No assessments thanks to ClubCorp ownership (recently pumped a few million into the club doing a course renovation).
- Really nice practice facility.
- Membership skewing younger and overall pretty good membership.
- The menās golf association is a good group of guys and tournaments are fun.
- Member-Member and Member-Guest were awesome. Expensive but awesome.
- Really good food and pool scene if joining as a family.
What I didnāt like:
- Morning tee times were very difficult to come by. Felt like the system was gamed but Iām not sure. To give an example, I would log on 2-5 mins after Saturday tee times became available and the earliest available would be 2:30pm or later.
- Pace of play was awful. Anything later than ~10 am would result in 4:30-5:00+ rounds. For me, the main reason to join a club is for pace of play.
- Not an easy walk and very few members who walk. Push carts also not allowed.
- OB/Hazards galore. Cost of lost balls can add up.
- VERY crowded thanks to ClubCorp ownership only caring about revenue.
Like I said, everyoneās experience is different and people care about different things so your mileage may vary.
I ultimately ended up at Providence, which seems to be a solid blend of corporate ownership (McConnell) but a club that is still driven by the members.
I hope this is helpful.
I signed up for the mid-am qualifier at Cohaire and bought some of the group golfer coupons as well to help me prep.
did they ever give a rationale for this, other than āthey look kind of silly at timesā
Iām just up the road at Sedgefield, we were experiencing this same thing with the weekend tee sheet, you had to be at your computer ready to click right at opening time. For the past couple weeks they have moved to a ālotteryā system, where you submit your players and 1 preferred/1 alternate time via email, and they assign accordingly. So far it seems to work, Iāve not heard anyone complain they didnāt get a time in their window, and there are still decent times available for several hours after the sheet opens. What was happening before was guys would just book a time with their name and 3 TBDs to hold a spot, then sort out their groups on Friday and a few times would open back up briefly until someone else jumped on them.
so random questionā¦were you selling a push cart and a sedgefield bag on offer up a year or two ago?
bahahahahahahahahahahaha
