Roll Call: New Mexico

Is that your home club? I’ve never played any course in ABQ, and have set a goal this year of playing a few new spots.

Yep, as of a few months ago…

Very sweet. What type of track is it? Are you enjoying it so far?

I’ve been meaning to ask @hannajb8 how he’s liking the new club too. I haven’t played there myself but I hear it is med-short with a lot of elevated greens. One of (I believe) only three private golf clubs in the ABQ area, in addition to Albuquerque CC and Canyon Club.

Three 9s.

The initial 18 are kinda like @RolandOfGilead mentioned, lots of up/down land movement and elevated greens.

The third 9 is pretty flat, houses closer/narrower corridors.

I love the greens, very fast and some serious break. Because of the proximity to the Sandias, there is a huge mountain/river influence on putt speed.

I’ve only been a member for 4 months, but really liking the golf. Haven’t done anything social yet, but my wife will probably use the pool in spring…

@Blinkman2 @RolandOfGilead @BrysonsLats any of you guys interested in playing Tanoan Monday or Tuesday, mid-day?

Yes. Awesome, thanks! My wife and I will be staying home all week so as long as baby boy’s daycare stays open I’ll be good to go. I was already starting to think of how/when to get out for a round next week and this sounds perfect.

Would love to play and meet you all! I think Tuesday would be preferable, but I think I could make either work.

Let’s plan for Tuesday around noon, I’ll book both days to be safe, and then let me know if one won’t work as we get to the weekend?

Awesome, thanks again. Has Tanoan been watering a lot or do they let the course get firm, fast, and brown? My bag is set up for playing through the air. I have a Bandon trip in May so I started trying out some stinger tee shots at the range yesterday. I imagine a stinger hit on a hole going downhill from the Sandias might never stop rolling.

Not a lot of watering, but not super brown. The greens are basically a frozen tundra, so the air game is a #toughscene right now. But then many of the greens are elevated, so hard to roll up. A fun challenge.

I’d say plan on some Bandon warmup stingers, won’t hurt you.

Looking forward to this fellas! Excited to see your games and a new track. What a treat!

My family and I spend only the months of Nov-April in NM, and the other half of the year in Central Pennsylvania. We have now decided to move out west full time… hopefully when we return in fall 2022 that’ll be the case. That said, because I’ve only been seasonal for so many years, it has limited my ability to build my golf community out here. I’m part of a thriving scene at my club back east and I really look forward to connecting with you both and starting that here.

@hannajb8, so appreciative for the invite and the earnestness. @RolandOfGilead, excited to hear about your trip and see your stinger progress.

Hey guys, looking like Monday is probably out for me. Will Tuesday be okay? (Pending kid stuff of course) @RolandOfGilead @Blinkman2

Perfect! For me, the later in the day the better

Yep! Our son is due for his flu shot booster and the only available slot was Sunday afternoon, so Monday might have been a coin flip anyway.

It’s hit and hope right now.

Hello everyone, I’m new to the refuge and fairly new to New Mexico as well. My wife and I moved here 5 years ago for my job from Oregon. I mostly play Sandia, Santa Ana/Twin, and Paradise Hills.

Welcome, @Breakfast_Ball_Hite. Come find some of us locals on the southwest roost thread.

What part of town do you live in? I’m over in Corrales, been here for about 3 years.

I see you are from OR, me too! Portland suburb, how about you?

Welcome! We moved here in 2015 and are here to stay. I jump around the courses in town quite a bit but UNM North has stolen my heart. I think I’ll get the Star Rewards card this year and play Santa Ana and Twin Warriors a couple times each.
