Roll Call: New Mexico

It’s such a beautiful set up! I made an absolute mess out of the hole in your last picture :joy::joy:

Additionally managed to pop a ball on top of a Mesa off the tees on one par 3, then somehow chipped in for bogey :joy:

If you are looking for food recommendations, don’t sleep on Izanami, which is at Ten Thousand Waves spa (also a wonderful place to get pampered) and Sazon, incredible high-end Mexican cuisine with an incredible selection of tequilas and mezcales.

Ha, my wife is already planning a visit to Ojo and/or Ten Thousand Waves while I play golf. Thanks for the recommendations. Is there anything like an Irish pub in town? I am on my own while she paints a wedding that Saturday night (that’s what she does for a living).

Looking at a potential move to Santa Fe from Nashville.

I don’t love Nashville and am open to a move - but I’ll be honest, the prospect of living in New Mexico is not immediately exciting to me. The Strapped season really didn’t do much for my excitement, either.

Can someone sell me and make me feel better?

Great weather and outdoors, low cost of living, laid back lifestyle. If you are active and like outdoor activities it’s an elite pace to live. The Strapped boys were in some rough places that are easy to avoid.

How’s golf as a local? (Understand that’s a loaded question, feel free to ignore if you don’t want to do homework for a stranger on the internet.)

It depends on your priorities. There aren’t a lot of courses - probably 12-15 or so between SF and ABQ - and only a few are objectively “really good”. But we can play year round. I think it’s great but I don’t play enough (2-3 times a month) to get tired of the courses.

Seconded! Between Marty Sanchez Links De Santa Fe and The Country Club (open to the public, only a CC in name) you always have a well-kept interesting place to play, close by. From there you can venture closer to ABQ or up to Black Mesa and get some higher-end golf experiences.

Most definitely not an Irish pub, but if you want a cool bar you can walk to, Evangelo’s is an old dive bar which happens to be where Jeff Bridges plays music at when he stops in Santa Fe in “Crazy Heart.”

That’ll work!

On a drive from Austin, to Telluride, if you had a choice would you play Pinon Hills in Farmington or twin Warriors?

I haven’t played Pinon Hills but I would direct you to Black Mesa (top pick) or Cochiti or Marty Sanchez (T-2) over Twin Warriors. It looks like it would add an hour to the drive but it’s very scenic country and IMO worthwhile for the golf upgrade. Twin Warriors is in good shape but overly penal on wayward drives and kinda bland for me.

I don’t know anything about those courses other than the guy that designed Pinion Hills also did Red Hawk in Las Cruces and so I’d like to play it. And I also think it’s be cool to do a Four Corners match of some kind there.

(Sorry for zero help. Safe travels!)

Going to be in ABQ 8/5-8/7 if any locals want to play? I have some work to do in the mornings but free in the afternoons. Was going to do UNM on Monday twilight, open tuesday and I have an 8:30AM tee time at Paako on 8/7 before my flight home to Louisiana.
Any and all are welcome!

I might be able to sneak out for a quick 9 before work on the morning of the 6th. UNM north course maybe?

Read a year’s worth of posts to try and not duplicate questions. I’ll be in town at the Hyatt Tamaya for a work meeting the 8/21-23. We’re getting rounds in at Twin Warriors on the 22nd and 23rd, but I wanted to find something to play in ABQ on the 21st. I don’t think I’ll have a rental car so limited to what I can uber to around town.

Is the summary still UNM if you want a walkable championship style course or Sandia if you want a rideable resort course?

Yeah that’s pretty much right. I just played UNM South and the greens are great, fairways are spotty but fine, and they haven’t grown the rough up which is nice. UNM North (9 hole par 35) is easily our most charming option if you’re into that. Playing it twice is delightful.

Thanks. Definitely leaning UNM then. I might try and hit the South & North in one day.

If one was moving to Santa Fe knowing no one and was looking at club memberships , where might one look? (Short of Las Campanas.)

Actually, is a fully private club even something that exists in Santa Fe?
