Roll Call: New Mexico

Twin is a really awesome course but it is tough is you’re having a bad day off the tee. It’s not super tight but there is not a ton of rough so if you miss you’re in the desert and you can lose a lot of balls in a hurry. It wasn’t in the best shape the last few years but I played it in December and it was in best shape I had seen it in a long while. Santa Ana and Sandia are always fantastic. I would say Sandia is my favorite course in ABQ.

I’m playing Sandia Sunday late morning, I’m staying at the hotel so that was my first one I booked.

I was in Phoenix earlier this week and miraculously was really pretty accurate off the tee most of the time, which is rare for me, so hopefully I can keep it between the mayo and the mustard tomorrow at TW.

I would have hollered at you guys beforehand but it really was a last minute “i should bring my clubs” decision since it was primarily a work trip but decided the weather was too good out here right now to not bring them

No worries man, glad you could play out here, Albuquerque is really a hidden gem. The golf value out here is really off the charts. Sandia is so great and always in really good condition. For the price you have a hard time beating either course. You slap either track in Scottsdale and it’s $250+ in my opinion.

Howdy ya’ll. Work is taking me to ABQ for a last-minute work conference on 4/15-4/18 then I’m gonna head home to El Paso for a few days afterwards, so my clubs are coming along. Let me know if anyone is available, I’m hoping to have some time to sneak away from the conference and get a round somewhere in ABQ. Thanks.

Hell yes, I was already planning to play one of those dates anyway. I’m looking at Arroyo Del Oso since that is the only course that won’t be punched yet. Do you have a date or time preference?

Let me know if you’re going to make it out in the Borderlands. My work schedule is kinda wonky that week/weekend because of travel the next weekend, but I think I’ll have a day or two in there.

Noice! I’m giving a presentation and then have to sit at a table but still not sure of which days, I should have more info early next week. I’ll reach out as soon as I know but hope we can make it work.

I’ll for sure be playing, but not sure if I’ll be able to head your way in Cruces, likely stay around El Paso but keep me posted.

Trying to convince my dad to go to the Hot Springs at ToC, I could use some R&R.

Will do.

Edit: they just redid the course out by Elephant Butte (Sierra del Rio) and it’s a great track. The back nine is a trip, but it was in excellent condition when we played last summer. And we had the place to ourselves.

Sounds good. Let me know right away because prime tee times get gobbled up pretty fast when the seven day booking window opens.

Ok, just got the schedule… Tuesday or Wednesday morning should be good, as long as I can be back around 1pm… Thursday around 2PM should be good as well.

I light of aeration schedules in ABQ… I’m gonna be in Santa Fe for my mini moon next week and we have a tee time at Black Mesa. Should we be worried that the greens are punched?

I booked a 4some on Tuesday at 07:30. I’ll see if any locals can fill the other two. I can’t do Wednesday but can switch to Thursday afternoon if needed.

I’m staying at the Hotel ABQ in Old Town, seems not too far from Arroyo Del Sol, should be a nice quick uber ride, Tuesday should work, thanks man! Looking forward to it!

Update: the wife and I did indeed venture up to Black Mesa for a round. The greens were punched a week or two before from what I could tell, which really just made them a touch slower for my wife to enjoy more. What a breathtaking piece of property. I loved that the forward tees changed most tee shot angles to where it was way less intimidating than the back tees, making for a really enjoyable round for the both of us.

Favorite moment: since it was a trip for the wedding, I mentioned it being our honeymoon on the tee time just so there might be a slightly better chance for us to play on our own. Not sure they have that happen very often, because when we checked in the lady working the desk got a bit nervous, told us congrats and gave us a free bucket of balls and yardage book. Best gift of the trip.

So sick. I need to get back up there this year. I’m glad you guys had a great time.

A few of our Big Plex crew love the track so much, we’ve thrown around ideas of heading out there for a possible meetup with you Dry Heaters. Step one for me would be recovering from using all my PTO on wedding activities.

As long as the nights aren’t too cold, a northern NM itinerary with Black Mesa, camping, and Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe* would be hard to beat. I’ve fantasy booked that lineup in my head for years but it hasn’t come together yet.

*same course designer as Black Mesa, but an excellent muni course on less severe land. Think BM but scaled back to be walkable.
