Roll Call: New Hampshire / Vermont

The course was in great shape! Sorry to have missed you, but we’ll make it happen next time I’m in town

This is wicked last minute, but I’m making the trek down to Hooper for a last ditch Fall day. Anyone else around for a couple loops?

Hey what time are you playing? If still looking for partners I could likely make anything after 2:30.

For whatever reason, when I came here to check back in the site brought me to this post which reminded me that Marble Island was a AW Tillinghast design. One of my biggest regrets is that I never got to play that course while it was still around. I’m sure it wasn’t his best work (it was a par 33 9 holer) but we don’t have name brand golf up here and it’s a crime that it was bulldozed for condos.

Hey all - Hooper is hosting our annual Arctic Open this Sunday and still have a spot or two available.

Teams of 5 (or less) $25/player, 9 holes, and you hit your ball through mini field goals to hole out. Scramble format with an 11:00 tee time. Watkins Tavern (the clubhouse) will be open for food and drink afterwards, and it will give you enough time to get home for the big game.

DM if interested!

Hello all,

New Nest member coming to you from St. Johnsbury. While it is very much still ski season, I am looking forward to golf. I belong to St. J Country Club (public but members can tee off early etc) but have been trying to expand my Vermont/NH courses. Sadly many are private, but in the last year have been fortunate enough to play Links at Lang Farm, Green Mountain National, Equinox (no not Ekwanok), and Mt. Washington. Reading through all of the places and recommendations I feel like I have found people with a lot of like-minded tastes (shout-out @VTSoxFan my wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Michael’s on the Hill in November).

I would be interested in anything that comes up, so here is mud season!

Hey VT crew, I’m headed up to my old stomping grounds this weekend (UVM grad) and attending a musical shindig in Johnson this coming Saturday with some old bandmates of mine. Going to try to play Sunday before hitting the road back south. Got into golf after my college days so have never played a round in Vermont and would love to do it right for my first one ever. Have my eye on Stowe Country Club (have not called for a time yet) but wanted to canvas this crew on any recommendations in the Burlington/Stowe area or even further south off of the Route 7 or I89 corridors (can take either way home starting in Johnson).

Thanks!

I played Stowe Country Club when I was visiting the area last summer. Loved it. Very hilly course, which I guess should be expected for the area, but it made for some fun holes and an old school New England feel. I’m not a local though, so maybe someone else would know the alternatives better than I would.

My daughter will be going to UVM this fall and I’ll be up there in August and back up in late September, hope to get a round in a some point. Open to suggestions. I did see the recommendation for Stowe CC. Any help appreciated. I’m not a C-Suite snob.

Anyone know the protocol/difficulty for getting on Mount Washington? Just a matter of calling in advance or is it guests only?

Did this ever pick up any steam? Newish nest member trying to get my bearings straight on the roost environment.

When I played I called the pro shop, no requirement to be staying at the resort or anything.

Great call bringing this idea back up. Seems like the key is to have a regional captain who is the driving factor. Then they can assess the numbers and feasibility.

Any volunteers???

Yeah, when I brought this up, I was working at a non-profit putting in 35 hours a week max. I’ve since changed jobs and definitely couldn’t take on setting this up. I also worry that we might be in the 5-10 member range which could make it tough to get a foursome together on any given weekend mid summer. If somebody else picks up the ball and runs with it, I’m in though.

Same - I would definitely be in but don’t have the capacity to be spearheading it.

Hey NH/VT crew! Wanted to get this thread/story in front of you all about the boys repping VT at HS Nationals next year.

So when does golf szn start in say northern VT/NH? Live about 45min from the border up in Canada, Earliest I’ve started is 31st of march real close to the border with ice in bunkers. Wondering if I go maybe 2hours south of where I am (1hour-ish) into the states, how soon I could get a start

Depends (obviously) but Northern VT or NH i would think you would be lucky to be out by 4/1.

Have to agree, in my experience near Canada it’s at best beginning of April for early season play. Jay Peak resort was 5/26.

Near MA there’s a couple courses open, usually pending wetness / snow fall levels. 4/1 is best case at anything not right on the water.
