I was thinking about signing up for both this year but as a 10 who can shoot both a 75 and a 95 (which I did last week) I really don’t want to make someone try to qualify with an anchor tied to their waist.
I vote to go for it. Getting reps in a pressure environment like an Am qualifier can only help your game. I actually haven’t played Williston, but from what I hear you need to keep it in play off the tee…often hitting only 220ish on a lot of holes. If you’re good at hitting hybrid/4 iron/3w straight, could do well there. Personally wouldn’t worry about dragging down a group in the qualifier…I’ve played with guys who are way worse than 10s in those…
I might give it a try at Williston. It’s the kind of course where if you catch a heater with the tee ball, you can go pretty low. Not really a place you can think your way around, you just need to have it that day.
One general thing I’ll note is these things are so mental. If you’re like +4 or +5 after three holes or whatever, keep fighting and settle in. All isn’t lost and a run of 5 pars in 6 holes, or whatever, can make up for that. I shot 46-37 in one brutal qualifier at Neshobe years ago and (I think) made it on the number. Just avoid disasters and play solid, if you can shoot 75 on a given day, you have the game to qualify.
Have never played Williston because I heard it can get really backed up - will have to try that one day I suppose
Not till July my friend
Happy to go as a twosome or otherwise lets try to find a good weekend this summer!
Yeah, let’s shoot for another time during summer! I floated the idea to the wife and got some side eye so I’m assuming my Monday was already spoken for without me knowing
Hopping in here to link to another thread. Any suggestions for a trip this fall (most likely non golf) would be much appreciated. Was told I might get some more info, especially through NH/VT, if I posted in here. Appreciate it ahead of time!

Where are you headed through and what time period? And what types of tips are you looking for?
Early October. Looking at 3.5 days leaving from Portland to when we would fly out of Burlington. Probably 2 within White Mountain area and surroundings, then 1.5 in Burlington. Looking for good food/drink and maybe a good low key town in western NH or eastern VT to chill out for a day. The 6 days prior to this will be pretty busy (Cape/Boston/Portland) so we wouldn’t mind one day just to kick our feet up.
Big agree on Littleton, NH, really cool little downtown area, the brewery referenced was actually started by my high school chemistry teacher and some friends of his. There are a few pretty good lodging options in the area, the mountain view grand is my parent’s go to for staycations, if you’re feeling like something a little more c-suite and new england chic, the rabbit hill inn has never had a complaint in their >100 year history (this is actually in the tiny town I grew up in). Both of those options are about 20 minutes from downtown Littleton and 1.5-2 hours from Burlington. Montpelier, Vermont’s capital, is a really good half way point between western NH/eastern VT and has some cool spots. Stop in at the skinny pancake and grab a crepe or two. In Burlington park near Church St and walk the cobblestone streets, then head down and check out the waterfront. Some local classics/hotspots for dinner are Leunig’s, Honey Road, and Bistro de Margot. If you’re looking for something quick and easy, Cafe Mamajuana was nominated for a James Beard award.
This is absolutely the most important thing: the road from western NH/eastern VT to Burlington is mostly a two lane road, if you get more than 3 cars in a row behind you, PULL OVER AND LET THEM PASS. Foliage season is a nightmare for locals who frequent state roads, I know the trees are beautiful, but if there are cars piling up behind you, even if you’re going a little over the speed limit, just let them pass.

Sounds like Littleton it is, and also will do my best to pull over for the locals. Thanks, very much appreciate all of these recommendations! @tigergolftraveler told me you may be the expert haha
Great recommendations! In Burlington, for beverage make sure you get to Foam Brewers which is my favorite brewery in town, and right on the lake. Zero Gravity, Burlington Beer, and Four Quarters in Winooski all also good in BTV/Winooski. Also really worth time to stop at Winooski Beverage and see basically all the beer you can think of from Vermont and can take to the lake or park and enjoy. Dedalus is a great wine bar in town and Shelburne Vineyard down Rt 7 also enjoyable.
If you have decent weather the Whistling Man Schooner sunset tours on the lake are great. For food, I would echo all of @I_have_the_yips’ recommendations and add Hen of the Wood for fancier food, Pizza Verita for great true Italian pizza, and Little Gordo for cremees. Also really enjoy just getting a pizza to go from somewhere and taking to enjoy watching the sunset over the lake at a park.
On your drive up on I-89, highly highly highly recommend stopping in Royalton on your way and going to Worthy Burger. An amazing place randomly in a small VT town, and highlights what makes a lot of Vermont great. And if you stop in Waterbury on way to see Ben and Jerry’s Prohibtion Pig is good BBQ and beer.
Its a great place to visit and if around happy to always go grab a beer in Burlington!
This is so cool man. We really enjoyed it. Awesome spot.
Anyone want to play Killington tomorrow at 3:36p
I just got back from a work trip (like literally 20 minutes ago) and I’m sitting here thinking whether I could pull this off without a divorce being on the table. I do not think so though
No worries boss. I ended up booking Green Mountain National at 3:18 if you change your mind.
Thinking about getting out to Hooper tomorrow afternoon (Thursday 8/25). Would anybody be interested in joining?
Damn! I am sorry I missed this. @prop did you get out and play? The course - despite the lack of rain and heat - is looking fantastic.
