A real shame. I really do enjoy the golf course. I can get over anything if its a good course personally lol.

There’s still potential for Gaylord to be on our Approved Courses List for The High Cotton Classic, but ultimately it’s up to them.
During our previous editions, they made no concessions on rates for our players or spectators. Moving forward, we are looking at only hosting matches at courses that are willing to work with us a little. $45 to rent a cart just to watch a match is just flat out ridiculous… that’s a full round + cart at most courses around here. For all the attention we bring to their course through social media and our actual matches, discounting our golf/spectator cart by a couple bucks is the least they can do.
Although I’m not a fan of the artificial mounding at Gaylord (it feels far more unnatural and out of place than mounding than at a place like Sweetens), I generally enjoy the golf course. If it wasn’t so pricey, I think we could consider hosting a Round Up there, but it would cost as much as two Round Up combined. I think everyone will be jacked up once you see the schedule

I have made this point before but, to me, it bears repeating. This copy from Gaylord’s website tells me most of what I need to know. Nothing says “links golf” like a flood plain site in central, landlocked TN with 100s of manufactured mounds. Also, as has been stated in here before, Gaylord will not, under any circumstances, allow you to take a push cart on the golf course. Even on a weekday and even if you pay the cart fee. Now, when I think of “scottish links-style” golf I think of St Andrews. Guess what? You can take a push cart out on St Andrews (which by almost any reputable list is easily in the top 10 courses in the world). And almost any other scottish links golf course, really. They don’t care about repeat business, they don’t care if you have a good time, they are there to serve one-off resort guests.
On the positive side, the greens are excellent.
Although there are variations in distances, I’d have to say Ted Rhodes for worst par 3’s although 12 is pretty good.
Hot take: I don’t know why because by every metric it’s a bad golf hole, but I absolutely LOVE #3 at Harpeth. #15 is good as well
I love Harpeth. It’s just a really solid muni and also has so much potential to be more. Might be the best land of any golf course in town.
The par 3s aren’t that good, I admit, but I was ready to fight when I first read that hot take.
I do like 15. The green could be redone but it’s a cool hole.
Yes, maybe I am being a baby but the par 3 15th at Ted Rhodes is such a mean-spirited/poorly designed hole. The green is not, in my opinion, built to accept a long iron or hybrid shot. The green is F’ing 17 yds deep with crap bunkers behind it and the green then running away from you if you plug in the back bunkers. Not to mention that it can play like 240 to the center. GTFO.
That stretch of holes at Harpeth (14-16) in the middle of a dry summer is just the most penalizing, frustrating set of holes for me. 15 has a really cool setting and I love looking back from the green over steeplechase and the rest of the course but that can be pretty severe. That said, Harpeth is the jewel of the municipal system and if you can actually get a tee time there it is the best value in metro Nashville.
The worst par 3 hole in the municipal system is #5 at Percy Warner. The front pin position there might as well make it a par 5. The green needs to be detonated or at least not be tilted at like a 10 percent grade back to front.
Agree on 15 at Ted Rhodes. Maybe one of the worst holes I’ve ever played
The entire course at PW needs to be detonated. Such a wasted piece of land. Need to get King Collins out there to turn it into a cool par 3 course with a fun putting green.
Love the banter going on. For the sake of transparency and discussion, here are the courses we’re looking at for the 2022 schedule. I’m still working on finalizing our regional before we can finalize our schedule, but feel free to discuss.
Two Rivers
Old Fort
Towhee Club
Kenny Perry’s
Greystone
Vinny Links
Henry Horton
The Legacy
Sweetens/Sewanee

I’m in Louisville KY, can I join this roost? I just can’t do Ohio which some had suggested.
Come. Join us. I’m sure The High Cotton Club is a better representation for KY than whatever those Ohio boys are putting together
That’s what I was thinking and thank you. I entered my info on the sheet.
Checking in here from Southern Indiana. I just tossed my name on the roost sign up list. I’m also probably going to be joining the Ohio guys for an event or two as well, but Nashville is a lot handier without the time change! Can’t wait to get down there for an event or two this year!
Welcome!
Absolutely love to hear it. Welcome one, and welcome all! I’ll shoot you the discord link right now.
If anyone else scrolls by and sees this… Yes, you can join multiple Roosts, and The High Cotton Club would love to have you. Just make sure you declare which Roost you intend to qualify for the regional from
@leftysauce will you humbly accept a national membership request from a Splash of OJ Roost member transplanted in Florida from Chattanooga?
Oh, hell yeah. The High Cotton Club welcomes you into our national membership program and we hope you can make it to an event! With the requests for meetups increasing, our schedule is sure to have something for everyone (if you’re in town, obviously)
Have you considered adding Franklin Bridge to this list?
For sure… While I haven’t played it in 10+ years, I feel like I remember a lot of talk about pace of play issues out there (and maybe some funky setup stuff?)
When scheduling our Round Ups & Rodeos, I tried to consider each “region” of the area (North, East, West, South, and Central)… Right now, Towhee and Henry Horton would be the venues for the “South” region, but that’s why I brought it up for discussion. If the people feel Franklin Bridge would be a better venue than Towhee, we’ll make the switch. I just thought it was an opportunity for folks who haven’t played Towhee, like the majority of us up here on the north side, to get down there and check it out.
