I have never played Henry Horton but have heard great things about it on here. I think Franklin Bridge or Towhee would be great.
The greens fees at Franklin Bridge have gotten out of control for what the course is but if they will make us a deal to play there it would be a good option as it’s closer to everyone on the north side of town compared to the others.
I played Franklin Bridge for the first time in over a year today and had a few takeaways. The course continues to improve, they added a real practice green, reworked the range, added a net, have done a lot of re-grassing, converted #9 from a bonkers/bizarre par 5 to a standard par 3 (I will miss that silly ass hole) and converted #7 into a VERY reachable par 5. It is a fun course that gives you a ton of opportunities to score.
On the negative side, they have a bunch of low lying grass bunker areas that were completely full of water (needs a drain like a catch basin maybe?), the greens fees are just going up and up, the greens themselves are probably a bit too fast for some of the contours they have. That said, I think Brooks is a really good guy and I wish them all the best. Would play out there but pace of play today was horrific.
Any chance this roost adds an event that crosses into Kentucky? There’s a new course opening in the mammoth cave area that might be good fit for a Roost event.
We’re looking at one event across the line at Kenny Perry’s, but I’ve heard a lot of rumblings about this Mammoth Park course… Certainly a possible spot for High Cotton Classic matches. Maybe we could even get some of the Ohio guys to come down for Roost vs Roost event?
@1HeftyLefty tipped me off on the Park Mammoth course. Looks amazing! If you haven’t seen it check out @brianrossgolf on instagram. Definite contender when it opens up in May 2022
I am new to Nashville, and when I say new… I mean I am 4 days in. Very excited to build a community here and would love to grab a round of golf with any of you here whenever you are free!
Also, any recs on good driving ranges and/or GC’s to frequent, please send over your suggestions! I currently live in the Nations.
West - Harpeth Valley Golf - huge hitting area. Year round grass option with over seeded hitting area. Also has a 9 hole par 3 course that is more of a pitch and putt if you’re bored.
Midtown/Nations - McCabe Muni - they have a decent range now. Can be crowded. If this is more than 3 minutes from your house I’d be shocked. For convenience I’d go here. For quality I’d go to Harpeth Valley Golf in Bellevue.
Southeast/Antioch - family golf center - not very good but can work in a pinch if you live over there. This place needs an overhaul and investment.
South/Cool Springs- The Little Course/Golf House of TN - this is the best hack in Nashville golf scene. You hit off the back of the Legends Club driving range. Best conditioning you will find. Only open March 1 - Dec 23. Also as a 9 hole pitch and putt. If you have little ones, it’s a great spot. They also have great camps for kids.
South/Franklin- Franklin Bridge. Prepare for it to be crowded af
I grew up in Bellevue and live in south Nashville now so someone else will have to provide guidance on north and east of the city.
Welcome to Nashville! We have recently created a roost with a good group of guys with a great calendar of events planned. More than welcome to come out and join us! @leftysauce is our fearless captain and runs great events.
I second this. Welcome to the Nashville area, 100% recommend coming out to some of our events/ joining the roost. I trust you’ll thoroughly enjoy the community and a great bunch of Nesticles
I echo everyone else… Welcome to Nashville! We’d love to have you join our Roost. It’s a great way to discover courses in the area and meet some like-minded folks. I sent you a message to get you dialed in.
You aren’t kidding on the Little Course. My son is 6 and he had a blast out there. We end up in Franklin for a day or two probably once a year and I will take him there every time we go now. I’d love to have something like that here in the Louisville area. Every area with some decent level of population needs one of these courses.
They are so great with kids too. I grew up in Nashville going to their overnight golf camps and would credit most of my love for golf originating on that course
Hey Nashville! I’ve browsed through the previous posts and found some great recommendations. I’ll be staying in Franklin while the wife works a weekend in early February. Just in case I get some decent weather… Think my best options are:
Franklin Bridge
Towhee Club or
Henry Horton
Harpeth Hills
Let me know if I missed anything or maybe if you have a can’t miss course close by!
Has anyone been to or joined The Golf Sanctuary in Brentwood? I cant find anything about it other than articles written when it opened last year. Any information would be great.
That’s a solid list. Let me know if you come to Franklin Bridge! Can get you on for free.
The only place I would add to your list is Greystone. It’s about a 50 min drive from Franklin but by far the most interesting public layout in the area.
ICYMI… #TheHandshake has been rescheduled for this Saturday, January 15, at The Legacy in Springfield. In our first event as an official Roost, we’ll be playing a fourball type format with two man and four man team scores, as well as contests like longest drive, closest to the pin, and a skins game.
If you’re interested in joining, just shoot me a message and we’ll get you dialed in. If you can’t make it this Saturday, go ahead and circle the calendar for #TheHeater at Old Fort on February 12! Sign ups are already live
