Just wanted to pop in and say thanks to all for the recommendations. We ended up playing Old Fort, Hermitage Generals Retreat, and then Sweetens. My standards aren’t that high I guess because I thought Generals Retreat was a pretty sweet course haha. Old Fort is how any muni should be. Pretty wide open with interesting greens. Sweetens is Sweetens and exceeded all of the hype.
Any interest in paying Sweetens on Saturday April 1 or Sunday April 2? - I have a few extra passes reserved but some of my group is unable to make it - we will be staying at the E9
Hey Nashville folk.
As far as private golf goes, is there anything close to affordable? Looking at a potential move back to the area but am out of the loop on the private golf scene.
Probably can’t do 80% of it but figured it would be worth an ask.
Usually play Hermitage when around.
I wish. I’ve recently checked every private club in Davidson Co. The country clubs are $100k or more initiation and two-year or more waitlist. Vandy Legends is $50k and two-year waitlist. I ended up joining The River Club at Franklin Bridge (semi-private in Franklin), and I’ve been happy with it.
Yikes.
Being a peasant sucks. I found one online that was 8k initiation. Figured that would be as low as it gets.
When I was looking in 2020/2021 the affordable options were Old Hickory, Old Natchez, Temple Hills, and Nashville Golf and Athletic Club. I ended up at Old Hickory and I absolutely love it, but I hear the initiation has gone up in the last couple years and there aren’t many memberships left (might be a waitlist now?). Heard recently that Temple Hills monthly dues have gone up steadily and that promised work on the club house hasn’t happened. Could be an effect of being owned by ClubCorp - the member I talked to isn’t happy and is planning to leave for Franklin Bridge. Don’t have any recent info on ONCC or NGAC.
ONCC was $6k a few years ago but has gone up a lot. Last I heard it was $20k with 100 on the waitlist. That could all be BS but that’s what I’ve heard.
Have a new pro who is promising and making lots of improvements. All the tee boxes are being completely renovated right now and plans for clubhouse work seem to be next.
I’m bullish on ONCC right now.
What part of Nashville, or surrounding areas?
Will possibly be working right off 40 on the east side of town.
Grew up in Mt. Juliet so know that side of town well. Everywhere else is so different from when I grew up I have no frame of reference.
Closest thing to affordable would be Gallatin CC. 9 Holes but has new greens and they are getting a new pro from Tennessee Grasslands.
So I will be moving to Cookeville, TN in about a year. Any of yall have ideas of where you would be looking to join a club around that area? Also interested in great courses in a 30-45 mile radius for weekend trips.
Unfortunately the golf is Cookeville is pretty rough. Your best bet directly local is White Plains CC.
In the area though there are some options. Right down the road is Fairfield Glade which is a huge golf resort with some of the best golf in the state and two public courses that are pretty good. Lake Tansi and Bear Trace are two solid tracks. Another option was called Riverwatch, but it recently sold and is going private under a new, very awful name. Fall Creek Falls state course is fantastic from what I have heard. It is not too far away as well.
Appreciate the reply. That area seems ripe for a nice course to be invested into. Between Nashville, knoxville, and chattanooga, i may just venture around on the weekends instead of investing into a club
Check out the Tellico Village area for some solid courses to visit and play in Knoxville. Lots of options around here!
Forgive my geographical challenges…is Crossville pretty close? I thought they had some solid golf. Just moved to Knoxville about 18 months ago.
Cookeville to Crossville is about 40 min
Knoxville to Crossville is a little over an hour. Crossville courses are worth the trip. Dorchester is my favorite.
@carrybagswag and I spent our college days playing the goat tracks there. Southern Hills (not that Southern Hills) is decent as well.
Luckily, the courses out there are all pretty flat, and therefore walkable, but the condition of any of them is a crapshoot.
Golden Eagle GC (formerly Cookeville Country Club, donated to Tennessee Tech) has a layout I like, albeit rather short. The condition is usually not great, though.
Maybe i can convince King Collins to build a course there…
Actually would be a good area considering it would pull from chattanooga, nashville, and knoxville
Is the Brian Ross’ music? A Park Mammoth-sequel spot would elevate the golf landscape throughout the entire state…
With Sweetens, OP9, and the new private course popping up north of Nashville, I wonder if King Collins would look to avoid expanding their local footprint, or lean into a Strantz-like stretch of regional venues outside of the stand-alone projects like Landmand and Red Feather
Who did the Wolcott’s sell to?
