Roll Call - MN contingent? (Part 1)

Can we add Stonebrooke to this list?? I’m not sure if the standard green fee includes pontoon maintenance or what, but it’s overpriced, never seems to be in that good of shape, is always crowded, and just isn’t that fun of a golf course. Anyone else?

There are a bunch of bad courses up by me that are referenced in the Worst Golf Holes thread, such as Princeton, Falcon Ridge, Spring Brook, Stone’s Throw, and Bulrush, but I won’t include those in this bracket because almost no one has played them but myself.

So, these are the 16 we are going with. I’ve only played 2 of them, so I’ll seed them the best I can from what I’ve heard.

Despite my take, I think it 100% should be on any Minnesota golfers bucket list to play at least once especially if you have any memories from watching or attending the majors. 2002 PGA was my first pro event and first time I ever saw Tiger woods. Waited at a par 3 for an hour that guys were bogeying left and right with 4 irons and he comes up and knocks a stinger 6 iron to 10 feet and buries the putt. He also looked like tiny next to Ernie Els in person! Pretty cool to get to play a major course even if overrated.

Listen, you’re just upset that your course got blown out in the Elite 8. Take some time to grieve.

I’ve been waiting for this take for awhile now. Stonebrooke also has the worst range man has ever seen, and might actually get a million rounds a year of play on it.

No, the worst range ever is at Lawsonia Links.

Actually, that is true.

“I’d like to hit a bucket of balls as well please…”

“Sure, you’re going to need to head east until you get to the singing bush. Each player in your group will need to say the magic chant, fire one shot into the air, and that will summon the invisible swordsman. He will then show you the way to the cow pastur…err…driving range. If there’s more than 3 people hitting, you’ll just need to come back and get berated by our starter on the first tee about keeping pace. Enjoy your round!”

Last time I hit balls there I went at about 7:00 p.m. I asked the kid at the clubhouse, “is the range very busy right now?” He responded with “I have no idea, it’s down the road and I haven’t been there all day.” I actually appreciated the absurdity of the honesty.

Lawsonia had a range?

Yeah it’s between #1 and #9. Tons of range balls on number 1 during our afternoon round.

sheepishly, the first professional golf event I attended was the Ryder cup in 16’. Memorialized in my golfice via this beaut:

also. would make for a fun distraction today: first pga/ pro golf event you went to + first concert you went to.

Me? Ozzfest 2002 at float rite. with gems such as Chevelle, POD, System of a Down, Ozzy of course, Rob Zombie, in fact drowning pool was supposed to headline but this was the day after a member died. so chevelle was thrusted into my life.

I live minutes away from Bolstad and played most of my rounds there last year. It’s so close I could swing over, play 9 and then be back to watch kids on “dad days.” I played some of my fastest 18 hole rounds there last year while playing in foursomes. They spread out the tee times and it was marvelous last year. The tee sheet is slammed every day there but it’s reasonable and I can be back home late am to get back to dad duty.

Full disclosure, I play nearly all of my golf midweek as my work schedule is not “normal.” It’s not great but its super reasonable and incredibly close for me.

Well that’s promising to hear at least, I only played 2 or 3 times this year despite living just off hamline near 36. I do have to imagine the midweek morning crowd is a bit more, shall we say, aware and keep up pace better than the weekend rounds that I went through haha

proximity is EVERYTHING for me (not just limited to golf)

Because I have a brand to maintain…

And have I done my diligence on golf courses nearby Canby? Yes. Did I find that each individual hole at the Canby Golf Club is uniquely identified (“Hole 3 Par 3”) on Google Maps? Also yes.
