Roll Call - MN contingent? (Part 1)

I was in the Jax area back in December and hit TPC and Jax Beach. Jax Beach is a great muni with some really killer greens. Also of course fun to play the course the NLU boys frequent and do videos at. Not anything really to write home about, but the price is right and it’s in solid shape.

I got hooked up with a killer rate at TPC. I think we paid $220 after the caddie fee? At that rate, I’d play there monthly if I lived in the area. But the public rack rate is outrageous. Not worth what they are charging, at all. The greens were the slowest of the trip, but it’s obviously a bucket list course with 16-18 being as much fun as you’d hoped.

I had messaged Tron before the trip and he recommended North Hampton, if you’re willing to make the drive north. Looks really legit.

Hope this helps.:+1:t2:

Polls have closed! A recap of Round 1 before Round 2 matchups come up:

  • I believe there was only one upset, but it likely was due to poor seeding by me as I had never played either of the 2 courses. That was The Pines prevailing over Ridges at Sand Creek.
  • I thought we were going to have a revote for the Minnesota National-Bunker Hills match, but it looks like Minnesota National took out Bunker last minute. Was the closest one.
  • Lots of blowouts. Keller over Shamrock and Deacons over Headwaters were tough scenes.

Round 2 will be posted in a few minutes.

A couple people I stayed with played North Hampton and said it was fantastic.

The Edinburgh vs Dutch Legacy matchup feels like a 12/13 matchup that everyone was cheering for in the first round but then realized they had to watch the crappy game in second round.

Agreed, has the least amount of votes too haha. Either one will get demolished in the next round by its next round opponent, which I believe will be StoneRidge.

Alriiiiiight. Round 2 finished. A few thoughts:

  • Edinburgh has gone too far. I’m disappointed in you all.
  • Surprised how many votes Dacotah Ridge took from Rush Creek. Sounds like if it was closer to the metro that it’d be up there with the rest.
  • Not sure if we have any Cinderella’s, but Pioneer Creek, Loggers Trail, and The Wilds are probably the closest.
  • I’m not sure what Keller getting 90% of the votes over Chaska means. Either Keller is that good or everyone just hates chaska.

Onto the Sweet 16!

Fuck, that second match is impossible.

Also, if anyone was curious, these are the original seeds for the participants in the sweet 16:

Quarry at Giants Ridge: 1
Wilderness: 2
Superior National: 3
StoneRidge: 4
Deacons: 5
Rush Creek: 6
The Classic at Maddens: 7
The Legend at Giants Ridge: 8
Keller: 9
Braemar: 10
The Jewel: 11
Baker National: 17
Pioneer Creek: 18
Loggers Trail: 19
Edinburgh: 20
The Wilds: 21

12-16 were Bobby’s, Dutch, Victory Links, Royal, and Links at Northfork. All knocked out early. One that I probably seeded wrong was Dacotah Ridge (27).

I’ve never played either course but I have a buddy who thinks Dakotah Ridge is his favorite course in the state.

I would also say in the last 5 years Chaka has trended to overrated/overpriced.

Have only played it once, but I can’t believe the love Loggers gets.

Voted for Edinburgh just so it wouldn’t be shut out. StoneRidge is a far superior course and isn’t even close.

Kinda agree. There’s some solid holes out there, but it never blows me away.

It deserved to be shut out but I understand.

Superior National is black bear with views

This is a flamethrower of a take out of nowhere. Love it.

Have never played Lutsen but I know @BaxterMSP loves it, so curious to hear a response to this take!

After a 5hr 20min death march there last spring, it’s going to take a lot for me to make my way back there.

I truthfully only play loggers in the early spring and late fall, but it’s got some great holes out there. Some major duds, for sure, but there’s a really high shot value out there. Some really cool looks and opportunities you don’t see at a lot of courses in its price range.

That round might have been even longer than 5:20! Honestly think I’ve blocked that from my memory!

I’ve come to appreciate Loggers a little more. Maybe it’s from a better sense of where the trouble, and scoring “well” helps with the opinion. Playing the last round of the year there when it was absolutely frozen was kind of invigorating as well, having to think so much about where to land the ball short because the ball was going to bounce and roll out 20-30 yards.

That raised my opinion some, but also really exposed the faux links nature of the course as it’s definitely not designed around the ball being on the ground as true links course would be.

Superior National is a treasure and anyone that feels otherwise is dead inside. Is it perfect? No. Would it be considered a top tier public course if it was more easily accessible? Bet your ass it would.

I’m not interested in awful takes; the golf in AZ has not gone well. My swing completely abandoned me since December, I’ve lost money to @anon47037505 the last two days, and I snapped my driver shaft in a moment of frustration. Dark times right now…
