Roll Call - MN contingent? (Part 1)

Anyone interested in 18 at Braemar this Friday morning? I’ve got a 6:52 am tee time with room for 2 more. Let me know!

For $45, Sand Creek is a great value. Conditions over the last 2 years have gotten so good. The new super is fantastic!

Soooo the Eagle Creek qualifier didn’t exactly turn out how I wanted it to, but was fun nonetheless. I was E thru my first 6, hitting the ball great. Come to my 7th hole (16) and duck hook it onto the road. Double. Two more duck hooks that lead to lost balls on my 8th (#17) hole. Snowman. Hook OB on my 12th hole (#3). Double. Another hook OB on 13 (#4). Triple. Played the last 5 even par… 13 over in 7 holes (holes 16-4) and E on the other 11 surrounding them. Unreal. Duck hooks just appeared for 7 holes and then no issues the rest of the round. Probably still wouldn’t have qualified anyways even if I didn’t catch the snappers, but might have been within 2 or 3!

Anyways, great to see fellow refugee @DropKickinBombs win it and qualify! @LJP you were 100% correct about wanting to shoot whatever @DropKickinBombs shoots.

Also, I really enjoy that golf course, if you’re ever in Willmar go play it.

Update: I have a third for mine and @QGorski’s EMB8 match on Saturday. Still one spot open at Stoneridge, 9:20, this Saturday the 27th.

My non-refugee brother might be interested as he’s been wanting to get out there. I’ll see if he wants it

Edit: he’d like to join if the spot is still open, but if another refugee wants it, no worries

First come, first served. DM’d

He’s refuge-aware (since I talk about it a lot) so I have full faith you’ll prove to him I’m not a psycho for having internet golf friends haha

Dude, you battled!! That is honestly super impressive. To be E on your last 5 after battling some demons out there says a lot, so well done! Way to stay in the fight. Anything stand out about the course? Favorite holes, conditions, etc.? Appears to have been playing pretty tough! Really glad you enjoyed it.

This comes as ZERO surprise! Great playing @DropKickinBombs - very nice round! Looks like you got a couple early and were in control the whole way through. For the people, were there ANY moments in which you were uncomfortable out there? :joy: How was the course playing and how do you feel about Edina CC for the Am? Also, looks like Brett played well on the front and the wheels came off a bit, it happens! What did you think of his game? And what happened on 15?

We started on 10 (so the back was our first 9 and the front our second).

I made a bad bogey on 10 (butterfly bogey, always nervous/excited on the first hole). I hit a hybrid to 65 yards out, thinned a sand wedge over the green, flubbed a chip, missed a long par putt. From there I was settled down and played pretty solid the rest of the day.

Brett is a nice guy with what is clearly a good game. He was off Tuesday, but you could see he has “it”. His distance control on his wedges, even on a day he was off was very good and he rolls his putts pure, none went in for him, he hit a lot of edges. On 15 he hit his drive left into the trees and the 3 of us looked for is like dogs hunting for black truffle but couldn’t find it. So long walk back to re-tee. Felt bad for him, never fun to lose a ball in a spot you should find it.

I wasn’t “uncomfortable” ever, I was an excited form a nervous on the first hole. I don’t get uncomfortable due to pressure anymore because I have come to appreciate the challenge and play less competitive golf now (and less golf in general) so I appreciate competitive golf (and golf in general) more now than in the past.

The course played about as you described, there were a few “no-go” pins out there and the wind started to pick up at about 9:30 so it was a good test. Course was in great shape.

I have played Edina CC a few times in the last couple years and will be joining a group with a buddy on July 10th for a practice round. For those of you who have not played or seen Edina CC, they have the coolest looking green structures from the approach shot. The bunkers look like they are integrated with the greens, lots of elevated greens tightly guarded by bunkers. It’s not an overly long course (playing at just under 6,700 yards) but when you add up the undulation in the greens, Hoffman picking pins, greens at 11 plus on the stimp and the fact it’s the State Am, it will be a real test of all parts of the game!

I am looking forward to it for sure. The practice regimen will get stepped up slightly to focus on wedges and short game (especially lag putting and speed control). I am crossing my fingers that we can have caddies! I am not in cardio shape to even push my own bag :joy:

I didn’t think it was playing too hard. The quad took the wind out of my sails and I realized I had no chance after that so I think that contributed to the first few on the front. I love that back nine, just a blast. Greens were pretty much perfect as well. I think you guessed like 10 of the pins lol.

Alright guise, i need a rules verdict. Was playing keller yesterday and was on the outer edge of the green. Chipped it, took two hops and hit the cup, the foam noodle bounced up (you could see it recoil up) and the ball was rejected. Honestly i felt like it should have counted, as the ball hit the cup at a reasonable pace but i didn’t know so i just putted it for the next shot. Not the end of the world and i am not a rules expert but i was curious on how this should have been played.

I would have counted it, assuming my playing partners had no objection. If you had no playing partners, book it.

Ahh, that makes sense. That is a really tough spot because I’m sure it rattles around in the trees and kicks somewhere random, making it very hard to find. That is too bad. It’s one of those “Go WAY left!” tee shots if you miss over there… Glad to hear about Brett though, like I said I know his dad well, who was maybe out there following? Will be fun to keep an eye on where he goes in the game!

I would say “he is human” but he went 4-under on his remaining 17 holes, so I am not sure that applies! Great playing. Fun to hear your perspective on competition and no surprise it serves you well. Go get 'em at the Am, will keep an eye on that for sure. @jshel and I are always pulling for fellow Willmar kids. You will have to report back here on how it goes. Good luck!!

Glad to hear this!! Yes, the back-9 just has a bunch of fun golf holes. It’s not that long, but there is enough quirk and it asks a number of questions of your game that just make it a good test. It certainly makes sense to hear rumors of architectural pedigree, whoever did it knew what they were doing. I think it was first laid out in 1931 as well, so technically the back-9 is “golden age”! Haha.

I did the same thing last weekend. My inclination was to putt out, but my playing partners who were closer to the hole immediately said they thought it would have dropped without the foam noodle. Based on their reaction, I counted it as made.

Yeah, I’d definitely say count it.

Also, some of the foam inserts at Keller are real high, which makes it very hard to tell if something would have fallen or lipped out. Think we can we get custom logo’d inserts for the Northstar Shootout?

Hey guys, love the MN contingent. Always something to read.
I’m a Lindstrom resident, play Chisago Lakes a few times a year, but mainly, play out of a course in western Wisconsin.
I have the opportunity to play Tanner’s Brook on Sunday. Never played it. Is it worth the $53 (w/cart)?
Just curious.

tanners is definitely not worth $53 with a cart imo. its worth playing for their twilight rate.
