Roll Call: Minnesota Part 2 - SIM MEETUP post 9471

Would love to get to 48.

I’m not quite panicking yet, but it just feels like engagement is way down this year. On paper we have over 100 Roost members. Many of the “old guard” either can’t make it or aren’t sure. Just feels like the air has been let out of the room a bit.

Last year, we had 30-something items up for auction. We’re currently at 12, which includes 6 Winston Collection headcovers. Merch is even more dire.

Got a brewery event that day that I’m on the hook for, unfortunately. As others have said, the summer filled quickly. June-September is kinda chaotic on my end.

Damnit. And here, I was going to ask you if we could do the after-party at Headflyer.

When I first saw the announcement, I was absolutely stoked for all day golf at that price point. Unfortunately as I’ve mentioned prior, my wife scheduled our annual golf outing at everyone’s favorite course for the same day back in like January.

I feel like this is just bad luck on that date? I know @Bnankivil is very excited for the event. I have two non-refugee friends that would likely be going but they have a wedding.

I would keep bumping that spreadsheet as Kcurry and I just added to it. On the merch front with a large dome, I’m not sure I can pull off a Visor, bucket hat or rope hat but I will donate at least one of those as well to the raffle to help get numbers.

Is there a charitable goal for this event? Number from last year to match or beat? I’d prefer to make a direct donation because I get a company match that will double mine.

I personally don’t care if you add 10 non refuge members at a lower price or offer a junior rate (probably would be like @Mystic age minus a dozen or so) or something to pump numbers up.

Possibly worth consideration - if conversations with Lawsonia regarding the “Ope”-in go well, that tournament will likely be moving to July. In that event, the Shootout will be bumped to August or September next year. Will that be any better? Because my gut tells me no.

Also, have you considered an 18 hole rate if maybe someone wants to come hang out for the morning but can’t make all day? No clue if that would bump numbers but the ultimate goal is to pay the bill while supporting the charity right?

I need to call them about that next week. This week has been fucked with work. But yes, that’s likely happening so long as we can make it happen.

I am also part of the “got booked with something else that weekend” group and would otherwise be there.

Mea culpa if this was done but was there a poll or something to gather best available dates or weekends that are NG? I know it’s been usually the same weekend but maybe needs to pivot year to year based on the roost availability.

I’m would also speculate competing with the Ope’n a month later is tough for an all day event at Gross National to do, just is what it is.

I appreciate you for that.

The final number from last year, including a $1,000 match from US Bank, was $5,838.34. We will likely not even sniff that without 20 more players, but personally I would like to see $2,500 or more.

No, but the truth of the matter is that outside of Memorial/4th of July/Labor Day weekends, no weekend is going to be any better or worse than another. Our summers are very limited and you’re always going to have people who can’t make it regardless of when it’s scheduled.

I agree somewhat, but there’s a lot less crossover in those fields than you might think.

I was thinking we would talk to them in-person in August, but both/and is probably the best policy to make sure they don’t tell us politely, but firmly, to fuck off again.

This is probably a good idea. I’m not sure what the discount should be, though.

As long as you avoid Labor Day and the State Fair, I see this potentially being better. Less cabin weekends, desperately trying to get in as much golf as possible before winter, and matching up with the end of the Northstar Roost season? - I also know that Golf courses have way less events and income in the fall so you could get a deal on renting a course out in the future. Seems like it has potential.

We can only hope. I should start talking with Foley about Keller like next week…

Rather have another $20k hold on my card and not need it than have us get told “whoops, too bad shit heads”. Especially as @mikedabomb has made all the progress he has.

Definitely a me problem, not sure if anyone else is feeling the same but: I haven’t been able to make any other roost events since joining it feels like a lot --as a newbie-- to jump straight into the roost event.

That said, doubled checked with the wife and we’re free that weekend, so I’m in

I mean, I play dogshit golf in front of people I haven’t met yet every time I go out, so not sure why I am letting it hold me back now.

I mean, that’s exactly what NSS1 was. NSS2 we worked in the par 3 course at Braemar, but followed that with 18 holes on the regular tee sheet.

The NSS was also my first big event as a member, and let me tell you it’s a great jumping in point. It’s like a cold pool on a hot day. You think it’s going to suck, but then it’s extremely refreshing. I’ve seriously made way more friends then I can count since then, and I hope you can find the same.

Unfortunately, I will be working that weekend.

In the first two years you changed venues, increased the number of holes, and changed the format. It kept it interesting. Should I not continue that? If you had continued to plan it, would you have not changed anything after Braemar?

NSS3 was a lot of golf, which is good, but execution in my opinion fell well short of my expectations due mostly to how hectic it was to get everyone around, reorganized, and back out again. By the time the final groups came in there were maybe 20 of us left. It was a long fucking day and not in a good way.

I want this to be a one-day event. I want it to be bigger than a single round. Primarily, I want people to enjoy themselves and not sit around for 3 hours waiting for their next tee time. I want to benefit a great charity. This is the culmination of all of that, and for people to play how and how much they want with little to no stress, we needed to have a course for the day.

I want to be clear that I’m not ascribing this to anyone in particular - but you have in the NSS a charity golf tournament put on by a niche group of sickos, where the golf should absolutely be secondary to the company and cause, with basically a golf playground for the entire day, and you still have not-insignificant prizes at stake. Provided that the course isn’t an utter shit box, the notion of boiling all of that down to “X course isn’t worth Y dollars” is, frankly, a level of arrogance that I can’t wrap my head around.
