NCC should at least win 10. Any green where you have go from having a downhill 10 footer for birdie to a 65 yard wedge in the fairway is worth the price of admission (WBYC 10th is similar short uphill par 4 but just not as crazy IMO).
The greens are nuts at NCC. I played it the day after the Spooner and honestly could not believe how brutal they were. I assume they aren’t that spicy all the time but I did end up putting off of 3 greens and was left a bit shell shocked, so long story short pick WBYC if you want to keep any shred of confidence in your putting afterwards.
Tell me which 10 you think Northland wins. Overall, I already said Northland wins on greens. WBYC wins on tee to green. I love a great view of Lake Superior as much as anyone here, but nice views of a big lake miles away come in second compared to the actual topography of the golf course
That makes more sense, but I still disagree. Hole 10 at Northland is the most overrated hole on the course IMO. Hit drive into fairway, hit steep uphill shot to the green. Make sure you don’t putt it off the front or else you roll down 60 yards. It’s fine but feel like a little too much hype for what it is.
Now, I’m all ears to discuss how Northland’s 17/18 finishing combo should make WBYC feel embarrassed by comparison.
10 at Northland as the hardest hole in the state has to be a bit. It’s not even the hardest par 4 on the course. Hell, it’s not even the hardest par 4 on the back nine!
Everybody takes everything too literally on here! Hardest hole in the state is a stretch but IMO (or at least the way I play out there) hole 10 edges out hole 18 for difficulty. I don’t personally see how 7,3, 14 or 16 are more difficult but that is the beauty of this game that we can have different opinions.
I am going to play the tired new Dad card here (I am not thinking clearly at the moment) as I did mean to just say hole 10 on NCC over WBYC. I agree with the rest.
Also I don’t agree that 3, 14, and 16 are harder than 10… am I the only person to putt off the front? Then have a crazy uphill lie and chunk a wedge in the FW only to have my 5th shot further away then my tee shot.
#14 and #15 at Windsong #14 at Rush Creek #9 at Spring Hill #5 at White Bear could probably be in the conversation and #16 if played as a 4 #6 at the Royal is pretty tough #14 at Midland is tough if i recall
I think it’s ok to think holes are the “hardest” when you’re comparing your game to them. I DO NOT think it’s ok to judge a hole as worse because you can putt off the green. 10 at WBYC is a great opening hole (I personally think they reversed the 9s at some point, and #1 is a mother of a bitch as an opening hole, good 10th), with a nice defensive green (if necessary) and a decent “just after the turn” hole as well. If we start judging a hole because you can putt off the green and end up with a 65 yard shot, your’re not gonna want to see a bunch of holes at Augusta, #1 at Sand Hills, #18 at Minikahda, #4 at Interlachen, etc, etc, etc.
