It’s to keep the Midland Hills Members out
Really enjoyed the loop around Phalen Park this morning, got out as the sun was coming up and had a wonderful time. Trying to book a weekend time coming to visit the Twin Cities is a tough scene , but for 33 bucks I really enjoyed this place after seeing they had an opening.
Greens were rolling well and the bunkers looked and played great. The maintenance staff were working on them this morning to get them raked after some rain came through last night so they seem to be working to keep them up.
Tee boxes on the par 3’s were a little rough and some of the tee boxes were still a bit tight with trees ( and the driving range that you look right at on 9).
One of the best 4* courses I’ve played in the MSP area for sure.
I have only played 4 courses in the area.*
It’s hard out here
Shrink the fucking game
Bit delayed but just a big lose for the City of West St Paul. 4-5 years ago they closed the municipal own executive course, Thompson Oaks and the local YMCA so that they could open a Hyvee. After failure to get proper permits and funding, the golf course is a shell of itself as it’s been closed 5 years and the best gym in the area is no more. Just sucks to lose two decent assets in the city for what is probably going to be a swatch of shitty town homes now. (Figured this was going to happen but got an official email from the city last week saying that the Hyvee is no more)
Note: it wasn’t a great golf course but it served its purpose. Aside from Mendota Par 3, the next closest public track is Highland across the River. That’s the golf angle here
Hello Minnesotans,
I’ll be in northern WI this coming weekend and its looking like I’ll have an open Sunday afternoon before my late flight out of MSP. Long story short, I’ll either be in near Lake City with time to play before heading to the airport, or will be in Bloomington. Likely won’t know until the morning of though.
If in Lake City, looks like The Jewel is the way to go?
If in the cities, looks like Keller is a common rec?
Any recommended 9 holers in case I don’t get back into Bloomington until later?
Thanks in advance!
Fort Snelling has a nine hole course that is in the shadow of the airport, not great but close. Keller will be booked solid by Wednesday morning so you would have to make a tee time in hopes of making it. I think The Jewel is probably the play, Highland Park is solid option and also very close to the airport.
The Braemar Academy 9 (par 3) is really solid if you’re running short on time. You’ll hit just about every iron in your bag.
The Jewel is really good if you are already in Lake City. Would recommend, and probably easier to get a time than Keller
Used to live close to it in WSP and enjoyed quite a few loops at Thompson Oaks.
The men’s league was an active - elderly - bunch and it seemed like I was the only one in the neighborhood not getting in on the weekly action. Neighbor across the street, this semi-disabled Vietnam Vet of a character, would get back from league, promptly grab a couple of Busch lattes and limp over to my yard to hash through his round if he saw me outside. Complete with swing re-enactments and gimmes given/not given by whom. Neighbor right next to him would usually join after awhile to make sure he wasn’t just telling me a bunch of BS. Then another guy would be walking his dog and he’d stop by and start talking about his round. I kid you not, it happened like this every week.
Attended one of the town hall meetings discussing the fate of the course and I swear it was straight out of a Parks & Rec episode. One city council member got up saying how it needs to be shutdown to protect wildlife and what-not and then proceeded to present his 5 point plan how many storage units they could fit around this tiny pond and how that’d be best for the community.
Was a big blow to that community. Thanks for sharing @aspoiledwalk
absolutely play the jewel, wont be disappointed
Did you guys win the TGJ event?!?
I’m coming for dinner tonight so if you’re celebrating still, say hi!
Not me and Joe, but his buddy Brett from Brookview. Not bad for a first TGJ outing
VIIIIIIBIIIIING
Little 48-37 to get the juices flowing (started on 7 where I promptly rinsed two tee balls, best ball stableford format so we ham and egged very well)
Looks like they moved tees around?
Only played it the one other time with you so I’m not exactly sure, but we played it at about 6600 total
