Roll Call: Michigan - support the Green Fairway Fellowship!

Listen, it’s $105.00 for 36, a night, and unlimited play on a fake Cradle. It can’t be too bad. I’m in.

If it was 30 mins away, I’d agree. But Oscoda? Hard pass.

Hey Michigan! Need a little help. I’m trying to do a last minute trip to Northern Michigan for my brother in laws Bday next weekend. My initial thought is flying into DTW maybe playing Rackham or UofM on Friday and then driving up to Forest Dunes to play those courses Saturday and Sunday. Forest Dunes has tee times but no accommodations so was thinking of either an AirBnB or hotel nearby.

Do you think this is a good plan? I’m open to any and all ideas.

Note: I need to keep my BiL away from any temptations like heavy boozy scenes and casinos (long story but not in a good place on that front). Just a chill weekend of golf and relaxation.

Or fly into Traverse City (or drive up from DTW) and stay and play at Boyne Highlands.

I am coming back to the homeland in a week. Unfortunately I had to drop out of the GR Get Down as we won’t be in town till later that Saturday. I do have 1 spot open Sunday 12:20 at Pilgrims Run if anyone wants to hop on it. Please shoot me a PM if you want to join myself and my father for a nice round. Will also be playing Monday evening in Holland if anyone wants to join as well.

Everything at forest dunes is top notch and you can’t go wrong playing everything they have to offer! If you go with that, I’ll warn you that once you’re offer property, roscommon is very bleak. might be worth your while to stay a bit farther away just to have any decent food options. when I was there in the fall we couldn’t even eat dinner on site because we hadn’t made reservations 3 months in advance. Maybe they aren’t as full this time of year and it won’t be an issue but just FYI.

Any recs on a town to stay in? Was looking at just grabbing a hotel in Grayling but happy to go further

I don’t know the area super well. @David_is_Goliath was just up there and stayed outside of roscommon. he might be able to give you a better rec.

I stayed at the Ramada Inn there and it was cheap, and a place to sleep but nothing more than that. There is a little brewery about a tenth of a mile from the Ramada Inn. It’s not luxury but it was cheap and closed

I lived up north for a long time and, if you can’t stay on property, Grayling’s your only choice without driving 25 minutes further up 75 to Gaylord which is bigger but not that much greater. Traverse City is fun and happening but at least an hour farther, which on empty country roads at night when you’re tired and whatever else, is longer than it seems!

Grayling is a “big” town for up there and has a couple motel chains. Their claim to fame is Spike’s Keg of Nails restaurant that’s been there forever. Hopefully you can eat on property and won’t be in the room much anyway. Forget about Roscommon though. Bleak is right. AirBnB’s and VRBOs close to the course are always good too.

There are usually some good AirBnb options along the two lakes down the road, Higgins and Houghton. We stayed at one two years ago on Houghton that was great and made it super easy to get to and from FD. Agree with the others that there’s not much else to do in the area though, but if you’re at FD all day and then have a lake house to come back to, tough to beat.

Jumping on the Grayling bandwagon; it’s your best option IMO. Paddle Hard brewing is a good spot if you don’t do Spike’s.

Hey Michigan, I need one hero to step in and play a crap ton of golf up north later this month. Here’s the details:

Saturday, June 25th - Drive up to Beulah and play 18 at Pinecroft in the early afternoon. Format will be match play singles. Two teams will be set up and points will contribute towards a team competition across each round (details still being worked out).
Saturday night - We have 7 cabins in Honor, just a few minutes from the course, plus a handful of hotel rooms about 1/3 mile away from the cabins. Should have plenty of time after the round to hit up a brewery or something similar in Beulah.

Sunday morning - Up early and we have a couple of passenger vans to take us to Champion Hill. Morning round is 4-person scramble, with a couple of side games thrown in. Hole skins, CTP, and long drive are also included. We usually throw around $50 each in the pot.
Lunch - we will bring some grills and some food and hang out in the parking lot. CH is BYOB, so we will have plenty of coolers.
Afternoon - Another 18 at CH, straight up 4-person scramble. Things tend to get a little sloppy this round, so we keep it pretty straightforward.
Shuttle back after to the cabins. We’ll have pizza or a food truck and hang out at the campgrounds to keep everyone safe after a long day of boozing.

Monday morning - 18 at Crystal Lake GC. Some people are usually hurting this round, so we will do a 2-club challenge scramble and incorporate a bunch of the front tees.
Everyone meanders home after the round.

Costs (not including food, bev or bets)
Lodging $186
Golf $185
Total $371

Shuttle bring $10 cash
Bets will be around $50, can venmo once we set the amount.

All in all, not sure you will find a 72-hole trip anywhere else that is this affordable, and everyone raves about Champion Hill (and Pinecroft, to a lesser degree). I can vouch that there’s almost no scumbags on the trip, and we have a great time every year.

I’ll hit up the What’sApp chat too, but let me know here or there if interested.

Thanks, looks like a good spot. I like the founder’s connection to Wolverine State Brewing too, I walk there from my house every once in awhile.

We will be up in Beulah that weekend as well on a buddies trip. Playing Pinecroft and CH on the 24th.

Just to follow up on this. I’m coming to Michigan Friday and plans are solidified. If anyone is available and wants to possibly join me and my BiL for any rounds and/or get drinks let me know:

UofM Course - Friday 6/3 at 11:50
The Loop - Saturday 6/4 at 8:36
Forest Dunes - Saturday 6/4 at 3:45
The Loop - Sunday 6/6 at 8:03

Also any food/bar recs in Ann Arbor are greatly appreciated. I’ll make sure to hit them up before I burn the whole town to the ground (ND fan)

What a great line up for courses! The guys did it when they played u of m, but even as someone local….Frita Batidos is my go to to tell someone to try. Very unique menu and never a bad option.

Haven’t been downtown to the bars is a couple years now, but mash, the last word, alley bar, or Connor o Neil’s are all on the same side of town and good options.
