I’m biased for sure, but I highly recommend the course. Both 9s have unique characteristics with fun and challenging holes. And the price is a better point than some of the other courses in the area.
Played the wash with @theclv24 last year and had a blast, wanna get out there a couple times this year too
@MatthewGVPA @MorikawaForPres I grew up in Freeland, worked at Apple Mountain for a few years. I’m not sure if I’ve been back since high school though, it might be over 20 years now since I’ve played it. My mom still lives in Bay City next to one of the tees at Bay Valley, so I get up there, but it’s usually with the car jammed with kids and stuff, so I don’t ever get to play. I want to get back out to AM once, and the Saginaw Valley course, too. I’ve only looped the course once as a caddie when it was BCCC. I feel like I miss the Sawmill too, but I know those are just fuzzy memories and I probably wouldn’t enjoy it much these days.
@theclv24 Nope, the Sawmill is great too! With how close they’re located I’ve always thought an Apple Mountain/Sawmill double would be easy to do. Holes 5 and 6 at apple mountain are two of my favorites in the state & I plan to play there at least once a year going forward. Would definitely make the drive up if you wanted someone to play with this summer!
Also Bay Valley is a good value course, but the conditioning has gotten a little worse the past few years. Plenty of rounds get played out there though & I won’t complain when it’s sub $25 usually
Right near you by Dom’s in Ypsi. Did a league a long time ago at Lake Forest, but have since sworn off league play. Cant stand the pace. Doesn’t agree with my quick trigger!
Quick trigger is putting it lightly. Your pace of play is aspirational
Bay Valley is wild. My dad was a ranger there for awhile, so he talked to the pro a lot. That poor course has forever been keeping that God awful hotel afloat.
I think the course is OK, the routing is a little weird in places. It’s crazy that it’s a Desmond Muirhead though. What a strange portfolio he has. Mission Hills, Muirfield Village with Jack, renovation credits at Waialae. My dad found an old poster from opening showing the 5th hole (its been debated if the person hitting the shot in the poster is Jack Nicklaus, I’m inclined to say it’s not). It’s all Heather and just a single pine tree. Now you play through the woods, basically.
@theclv24 @MorikawaForPres it sounds like we have the makings of a round if you guys make it back up this way this season! I’d definitely be in at any of the area courses. Sawmill is on my list to hit up this year, drive right by it on my way to work most days. I’ve played Bay Valley a couple times over the last few years and as @MorikawaForPres said, if it’s priced right, it can make for a good value.
Agreed! I think the routing is fun, but i always putt horribly there. I’m pretty sure that is Jack though! I’m obsessed with knowing who designed the course I’m playing & when I googled that one a few years back Jack somehow even shows up as a co-designer. I take that with a big grain of salt, but he’s listed on the websites below, so who knows!
I played with a random rich dude at Woodside this past summer who buys/manages properties & he mentioned he was interested in buying the place and renovating it. I think that would be awesome because it needs it, but I can’t say I got my hopes up or took him overly serious haha.
@MatthewGVPA ill definitely make my way up there this summer so we should get a round in for sure! I’d be down for The Sawmill without a doubt.
Hey everyone! With First Tee - Greater Detroit being generously chosen as one of the charities Fresh Coast Flock will support, I wanted to see what we could do to “sponsor” in return. It isn’t much, but we can probably get some co-branded Linksoul polos for around $50 shipped.
Before we build out the ordering and figure out the details, I want to see how many people would be interested! Thanks!
- Fresh Coast Flock Linksoul Polo?
- Yes
- No

Please ignore my not-good poll and let that not speak on my overall ability to successfully order and ship a bunch of polos to you all.
First time - long time. NLU listener, finally joined the nest/refuge. Live on the westside of GR. Member at The Meadows - GVSU. Excited to meet some more michigan golf lunatics and get some local games.
Has anyone heard anything official about the NLU/TFE GR event? Don’t want to miss it. played in TFE meadowbrook event last year and had a blast.
Welcome! I consider the meadows my home course as well. I was in a league there for about 5 years and is still a favorite of mine. I try to play there fairly regularly.
I haven’t seen anything about the GR event since the tweet about it.
Welcome, I live in Walker so I am West Sider as well. It appears that our West Michigan member numbers are starting to increase!!!
Nice. Last year we had a pretty consistent Saturday morning game at the Meadows with 8-12 guys. We’re always looking for more guys.
Awesome! Welcome!!
GVSU Alum and love the meadows even though I never played it in college (wasn’t a golfer then).
Welcome! Miss the days of skipping class to play a quick round at The Meadows. Still lucky enough to go back there and play once or twice a year.
Welcome! I’m pretty new here too. I’m a GVSU alum as well and have never played The Meadows! I hadn’t taken up golf back then…definitely on my list to get back there and play it soon.
holy crap all the GVSU alums are coming out of the woodwork. I didnt go there but I grew up about 5 miles from there and partied with some of you most likely!
What’s up man! Jump in the west side FCF whatsapp if you want. Great place to link up tee times and such
Welcome to the ‘fuge, fella
