Interesting. I have lived near or around Ann Arbor for 20 years and never heard it called that.
I’m not usually one to bag on anyone, particularly those involved in golf. But, the entire MGL content doesn’t do it for me. I can’t quite put my finger on it, except that it seems so old-school and boring as hell.
It for sure screams 90’s golf persona to me.
Bc their “episodes” are basically just a paid advertisement for a particular course. Slightly above late night infomercial quality.
Funny thing, Hobs is actually a really nice guy. Corny? A bit. Inflated sense of self importance about MGL? Yeah.
Met him at TPC Michigan last year. 2 things I can say positive about the man: He lives golf. He loves Michigan. And props for him protesting the early Boys HS golf season.
I haven’t listened yet. How many times does he reference getting a Ruthie’s Delight dessert at Arcadia?
My only encounter with him was a few years ago at Manitou Passage. Him and a camera man came barreling up behind my wife and I and proceeded to let himself through without even stopping for a word or a confirmation that we would let him through. I don’t necessarily doubt that he’s a good guy, but between that and how he portrays himself on MGL and in his podcast, the self importance is what sticks out to me.
That and I tried following him on twitter when I moved back. From sports to politics, I found that I disagree with just about every single opinion that he holds.
Hey everyone. New to the Refuge/Nest. Live in the Midland, work in Saginaw, but try to play all over our awesome state. Kind of late to the NLU game but have been devouring their content since last year. Figured since this is The Year of Conviction, I’m going to look to #getinvolved in 2022!
Hell yeah man, welcome to the refuge! Feel free to jump in the roost/ matchplay for the upcoming season! A lot of us are in aa/det and on the west side in GR. I actually live in Toledo but I do much of my golfing up in AA with the crew. Cheers!
I did add my info to the roost signup. I’m definitely willing to travel to play. Looking forward to getting some rounds in with some new people this year.
Welcome to the group! I’m new as well & moved from the Saginaw area this past year.
Fav course to play? I always loved Apple Mountain, especially the front 9.
Heads up, the FCF has an Instagram page! Feel free to tag the page with whatever golf pictures and stuff y’all post!
thanks for setting that up!
Nice! Where did you move to? I played league at Currie in Midland last year but love Apple Mountain as well. I think a hidden gem in the area is Saginaw Public Golf Course (former Bay City Country Club).
@MatthewGVPA Lansing, but I attended SVSU so I know all about that course! I like it as well, but after playing it so many times I was ready to venture out a bit… the fairway bunkers get me lol.
I only played Currie once cuz of the 2020 floods, but it seemed like a nice little course. Admittedly it was harder to tell because it was mid-November haha.
Curious where folks are playing their leagues in southeast Michigan. Losing my partner on my Thursday scramble league at Leslie park. So looking into jumping to another local course that isn’t a scramble league.
Thanks for any input.
Live in AA. Play in a Wednesday league at Leslie now. Have previously played leagues at Stonebridge, Eagle Crest, and Washtenaw.
I need to get up to Leslie and check that place out. Still on the hit list.
That aligns almost exactly with my thoughts and opinion as well. Just not for me. Like 100% not for me on all fronts.
Live right by Eaglecrest and not too far from Washtenaw. Those two are definitely on the possibility list. Depending on if they have any openings. Haven’t tried to find a new league in quite a few years.
